I had contacted customs about listing my articles with CBP Form 3299 (my things being shipped without me there) and they told me to put the value of each box, completing all of Part IV - D

Another person I knew who did a move from Japan mentioned to me you could even get away with $1 value listed for each article.

Doesn't matter how much they're worth, it's better if the shipping company knows the true value however for liability reasons. You're allowed to ship your personal items, duty free, for up to 10 years. People that are shipping BEFORE they move will have to pay duty on it is my understanding so then you'd want the value to be as small as possible. (less duty) but then you're also lying to the CBP. I'd rather make sure the items crossed after I did with their true value. JMHO.

All I needed for my cat to move to SC was a certificate of rabies vaccines from my vet.

I got it from him in Oct when she had her well-baby checkup. luv.gif

My cat is already in the states XD We didn't need any vaccines. Maybe it depends on which state you are moving to.

oh thank you thats a bit of a relief . I will be driving them down not flying. Rabies boosters are a normal thing for them so wont be an issue. My concern was that my oldest baby is 14 and she is not fond of the vet at all lol.

I wonder if you can bring your pets across separately from your intital POE? I have two labrador retrievers...I cross the border with them all the time; I carry their rabies certificates. When the time comes to cross for my formal POE; do I have to bring the dogs? I would hate to leave them in the car by themselves for an hour plus...especially if it is August/September heat - my old black lab is 11 yrs old and not fond of the heat....he also has separation anxiety from me....could I do my POE then bring them across on another day? or is there something they give you at the time of POE to acknowledge the pets so you can get their license tags in the US?

Have whatever you're moving at that time on a manifest, not everything you own. And yes, you can move some now, some later. :). Makes it less stressful now doesn't it?

It also depends whether or not you're accompanying your items. If you're with them, they just need a very basic list. If you're not accompanying them then there is more paperwork to fill out and values must be included as far as I have found.

The officer at the border will "inspect" your cat possibly. All that meant for us is that he wanted to look at him. Your cats should be in carriers at the crossing, even if you normally let them walk around the car (which is what I do when we travel with mine) so be sure to lock them up before you get to the border to cross. Mine was loose the the officer reamed me out for it. He didn't care about the truckload of my stuff behind me that my husband was driving. He just gave me ####### for my cat not being in a carrier so they could open the back of the car to see him.
