Hey everyone,

Here's my situation: I recently entered the US on a K1 Visa, got married, got a Social Security Number, and applied for Adjustment of Status and EAD.

I know I am not supposed to work until I receive EAD. But I have to make money somehow.

So I have been freelancing with a company, and they just sent me a form W-9 to file before they can process my invoice.

Now, it is my understanding that the information on that W-9 will only be used at the end at the fiscal year, to fill out the tax forms for 2013. But I am not sure about that.

I will most likely have the EAD before the end of the year, and it doesn't seem that these tax forms break down the dates of the services provided, only a total amount for the year.

So I am wondering if I can file the W-9 without worrying about the IRS, and know that by the time it is used, my status will allow me to work and pay taxes?

Or does the employer actually send that W-9 to the IRS right away?

Thanks a lot,

Mat
