Employment question

Well i am about to fly to Ga to live with my wife to be in a couple of weeks and naturally i have some questions about employment. I have previously worked in the USA under j-1 visa's and naturally have a SSN. This had me wondering if i am able to work without the EAD? Can you work under a SSN if you have all the other documentation and are in the process of filing for EAD?

Like most people i wish to get into employment as soon as i can, we all know this process can dent the wallet some. Good luck to everyone at whatever stage they are at and i appreciate any answers.

Scott.

AOS/EAD

March 2nd- Sent package

March 7th- Receipt date/ checks cashed

March 15th- Notice of Biometrics for March 28th

March 16th- RFE for AOS posted online, still waiting for the actual letter in mail.

March 23rd- RFE letters arrived.

March 28th- Had Biometrics, all went smoothly.

April 9th- Informed that case processing has been resumed.

April 24th- AOS Transferred to CSC.

May 18th- Got the case pending at CSC email.

May 24th- EAD APPROVED.

Sorry, the answer is no.

You must be authorized to work, having a SSN is not enough.

So i have to assume that the only way is to do the filing and wait the predicted 90 days for the approval? I heard of the EAD stamp but that only lasts until you file the AOS, at which point i assume you would not be able to use that temp stamp.

EAD stamps on entry are already unusual, I believe only at JFK airport. And in addition, only on K1 visas. If you are already married, then there is no temporary stamp, you must apply for the EAD and wait the approx 90 days unfortunately. Good luck with everything :)

I am on a k-1, if i said wife i apologise, its just a habit of slang in Newcastle. I knew about the stamp at JFK, i just thought i had heard of attaining them at a local office (although i merely read this and it is more than likely false).

Thank you for your help

You will need the EAD card in hand. Employers will see the notation on the SS card, and will ask to see the EAD card.
