Afghanistan is exempt from the two years home residency. Search on Google about Fulbright two years home residency requirement. Afghanistan is not listed there.  So no worries about HRR and if your i-360 is approved, apply for change of status, i-485.

No need to file for J1 waiver and i-485 fee is waived for SIV applicants.

What is your current status? Still on J1? or did you apply for asylum?

-NO, Afghanistan is NOT exempt. the 2 year HER is written on my ds-2019, as well as the fulbright contract I signed when accepting the scholarship.

- my j1 program ended, and I applied for asylum. currently in pending asylum status.

Friend, do a little research. GOOGLE GOOGLE! These is no requirement of 2 years HR for Afghanistan. Unless they have changed the law recently and have not updated it on their website?  The FB contract and DS form mentions because they are standard document being used internationally, Afghanistan is an exception. Read info on this link. Click on the link, put Afghanistan where it says "enter a country" and ready the note underneath it. I hope this will help brother (or sister). Talk to an experience lawyer if you still are not sure.

Hi Venson, did you get your waiver? How much time it took? Was the fee waived for you?
It looks like I was wrong about the 2 years HRR exemption for Afghanistan. Can you please update me about what did you do? I also have a pending i-485, but have not filed for the waiver yet.
With the pending i485, can I still apply for a J1 2 years HR waiver?    Anyone, PLEASE HELP!!!!
