I went to Morocco alone the first time I visited my husband. I had a lot of dire predictions from other people about what horrible things would happen to me. But honestly I was not scared. I had this horrible phobia of flying so THAT scared me but I never for one second thought that I would not be safe with him. Now of course we can all be wrong and then things can be very bad. But in my case I trusted him and I went alone. He met me at the airport and we went back to the vilage where his family lived and I stayed with them for almost 2 months and it was a wonderful experience. Now we are married. If I had listened to everyone telling me not to trust him and not to travel to Morocco then I would not be married to a wonderful man right now.

Now having said that - only you know how much you trust this person. And I know nothing about Kenya so I don't know about safety in that particular country. But all I am saying is in my case - I decided that meeting him was important enough that I was willing to take a chance. And I am so glad I did.

Also, nothing wrong with taking someone with you. So good luck in whatever you decide.

I have visited many countries and travel alone. I register at the embassy so it is known where I lodge.

I leave plenty of contact numbers/places behind with loved ones and go over my last will.

I have International connections through my home church with their sister churches world wide and contact the pastors overseas before I travel to a specific country.

By the time I get there I and the church have develped a comfortable friendship so I always have someone to fall back on if needed.

I went alone the first time I met my fiance in person. It was probably the craziest thing I've ever done. My mother was terrified, but she had all my contact info and hotel info. She also made me email her everyday so she knew that I was still ok. Like KDH said, I could have died. Before I met him, I had talked to many other people online. I was more afraid to drive 6 hours to meet someone in the next state than to fly to India to meet my fiance. (I never met the other person.) I trusted him and I felt safe with him.

I think it's good that your friend has already met him. Still, make sure someone knows where you are staying and has good contact information for you. I hope you have a great time and a safe trip!

I went alone the first time I met my husband face-to-face. I had already been talking to him online, webcam and phone for 3 years though. I was not afraid. I stayed with him in his home for a couple months.. hanging out, sight seeing, and meeting his friends and family. That was not a visit that qualified for the I-129F petition. I had no idea I would be filing back then.

Well I met my fiance for the first time in March 2013. I was going to India and my whole family was worried sick because they thought I was going to get hurt. I went alone but he had lots of friends with him and I think that was more for my safety because he promised my mom I would return safe. I did contact the embassy in delhi to let them know I was there and I called my mom twice daily.

Now when we did leave the hotel my fiance always had a friend with him, and this was my first time out of the USA. I also did a lot of cultural research to make sure I was respectful to the people also.

Now I do admit it was scary going alone but in the end I felt safe and had a wonderful experiance and can't wait to go back to India when he has his interview!

I am so glad you mentioned how important it was, how you were willing to take that chance, and that you are married to a "wonderful man right now." Having pressure and stress from friends and family around you are just the beginning when you want to visit. It never ends during your

visa journey. You have to convey that you are very confident and that you know what you are doing. If they detect any doubt they are

on you like crazy to deter you.

This comes mostly from a place of genuine worry and care about your well being and safety but get confidence across and they will soon learn

to trust your own judgement.

Phase 2 of pressure will come with endless questions of 'Why isn't he here yet?' and assumptions. Brace yourself

Yes it never ends. Now again, some questions are asked out of genuine concern or interest and I am HAPPY to answer those. But the ones where they are implying somthing bad - those really annoy me.

But as for your visit - there is nothing quite like that very first time you see each other in the airport. Your days of getting to know each other in person instead of online and on the phone are very special times. It strengthens your relationship and you really get to know each other and you also get to learn about his country and his culture and his family. It is a special time. Don't let others ruin it for you.

Sure your journey has begun. You have met online and formed a relationship. You are getting ready to meet in person for the very first time and that is such an important part of the journey. I know I've said it before but there is nothing like getting off that plane and walking into the airport and seeing him for the very first time. And after your visit is over then you decide what to do next. In our case we ended up changing plans. I was going to come back and file for K1 visa but instead I ended up going back and getting married and living with him for three months. Now I am ready to file his petition. But after you meet and talk and spend time together you can decide what is the best thing for you and once you decide that then go for it and don't look back. There are always going to be negative people and if you let them they will suck all the joy right out of your life.

Each step you take is a part of the journey. It is a crazy mixed-up long complicated pain in the *&@#$ process but in the end we get to spend our lives with the person we love.
