It's a different kind of filibuster. It's not the anonymous, effortless kind that Republicans have deployed hundreds of times in the US Senate to pursue their miserably failed top priority of making Obama a one term President.

A different kind of filibuster?

Yes, a filibuster that has a natural end. Nobody can stand there indefinitely. In the US Senate, you don't even have to be in the country to maintain a filibuster. It's anonymous and effortless. That's a big difference from what it takes in Texas to filibuster.

End result is the same.

Not really. I'd say a filibuster that one can initiate and maintain virtually effortless and indefinitely has a definitive end result - kill legislation. The type of filibuster which you maintain on your feet w/o any relief ends within less than 24 hours. In this rare instance, it killed the legislation because the clock was running out on the special session. They already called the special session back and this legislation will pass. That's a different result.

Texas filibuster is no joke. You have to stay on subject, can't give up the floor. They need this in DC. wink.png

Ya, it's the real deal here.

Recent filibusters at the fed level included tag-teaming, giving up the floor, and restroom breaks.

Pansies.

Wasn't that the intent here?

It's just too bad that her dedication and resolve is likely to be undone by that dumba$$ Governor Perry. :(

Ah, but a smart and prepared filibusterer would arrive with a large enough colostomy bag to deal with any eventuality. wink.png

Yup, that's how it's normally done here in Texas.

Get wired up first, handle the plumbing bits,

then walk out onto the floor.

Sure it was the intent but it's virtually impossible to actually get it done. All that needs to happen is another session and it'll pass. That's the difference between the TX and US Senate filibuster. The former is good to make a statement but not much more. The latter buries legislation.

I'm curious as to what was so wrong about the bill in the first place. As far as I know, there were three main points.

1. Abortion clinics would have to have a doctor with admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles.

2. Clinics would have to be registered as "ambulatory surgical centers"

3. Bans abortions after 20 weeks.

What was the issue that set off the pro-choice people? None of those three looks like a "war on women" issue.

If it had passed, it would have been a lot more 'medical business' in the state of Texas, with licensing and what-nots,

so I truly not understand what the issue was.

If it had passed, then there might have been a temp closing of clinics, but it would only be temporary as everything and everyone shifted to meet the new requirements.

Sure, it would have been money spent to make it happen, but spending money in Texas is a good thing.

That's the thing... These clinics would NEVER meet the medical business... The state has set them up for failure by totally eliminating the possibility if these doctors to get admitting privileges at ANY hospital thus, clinics would never be able to meet these requirements... It would cause the PERMANENT closure of 87% of the states clinics... The point of the bill. Back door way to eliminate a woman's choice and the law of the land which is Roe vs. Wade..

Right. That's what it is all about. Circumvent Roe vs. Wade. Big gubmint invading people's private affairs. Republicanism.
