I got my work authorization last week and I want to go to the SS office to get a "real" SSN,but the problem is,I have this job for 6 years and using a fake social and to get a new one do I need to show a pay stub to show that I have a job ?

Taken from the SS page:

Work eligibility

In general, only noncitizens who have permission to work from DHS can apply for a Social Security number. For most foreign workers, we only need to see an I-94, Arrival/Departure Record, showing a class of admission permitting work. Some foreign workers must show their work permits from DHS (I-766).

Student: If you are an F-1 student and eligible to work on campus, you must provide a letter from your designated school official that:

  • Identifies you;
  • Confirms your current school status; and
  • Identifies your employer and the type of work you are, or will be, doing.

We also need to see evidence of that employment, such as a recent pay slip or a letter from your employer. Your supervisor must sign and date the letter. The letter must describe:

  • Your job;
  • Your employment start date;
  • The number of hours you are, or will be, working; and
  • Your supervisor's name and telephone number.

What happenes if I tell them I'm using a fake one ? The paystub shows a different SSN.

Thanks

*** Moving from CR-1 spousal visa to SSN forum. The remidner of the TOS above should be heeded- be careful what you ask, say, suggest and advice... ****

How did you Adjust Status? Normally, you can ask on the paperwork for an SSN to be issued and it should be sent to your home.
