Hi

So I have a question. I am currently in the US visiting my love and we have had some news come to light that due to work he can't come to visit me in the UK from when I leave to coming back in on the K1 visa, which can be 3.5 months from now.

I am due to fly out tomorrow, but we have been looking into changing flights and using airmiles to book new flights, and booking a flight 2 weeks from now and having the return for mid Oct back to LA, which is roughly (according to timelines) a month after we would have gotten our K1 visa if things go to plan, seems like a very good financially.

Anyway, regardless of the finance side, our query is more about this causing any issues with the Vsa Process. Would it be frowned upon if I stay another two weeks once I already entered the country? I have only been here 26 days so far, so it's beneath the 90 days on the ESTA and I had no issues coming through (you an read my entry post if you like)

any advice or experiences would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

It is a big deal if you extend your stay regardless of it being under the 90 day tourist visa (I had no idea myself until I experienced what could happen).

It could be difficult for you to return on a future visit as you will have to proof intent to return to the uk. I extended a visit over Christmas by 3 days (I ended up getting the flu and didn't want to travel while sick) and on my following visit, I had to come in on a I-94 visa. I have since been able to come in on a tourist visa, but am pulled into secondary questioning usually for 45 mins- 1 hour every time. I have to provide proof to return to Canada, so I have made a binder full of my bank statements, credit card bills, phone bills, pay stubs, tax info, etc... (6 months of each), and I have to get an entry stamp on my passport when I return to Canada (so I am able to proof that I returned on the date that I said I would). I have done this under the advice of a us border agent- who suggested I do that on my visit after the I-94. The border agent also told me that most agents would have denied my entry into the us (I don't know if she was trying to intimidate me or if that really was the case)

I completely understand wanting to extend your visit, but just keep in mind that it could be difficult for you to have future visits; although it shouldn't affect your visa process. I didn't realize it at the time, but when you tell a border agent that you intend to return on a certain date; you need to return by or before that date. I've learnt my lesson the hard way, and even though my experience may not be what everyone has/will experience; it is what can happen.

Good luck!

It shouldn't affect your visa at all though :)

I reckon you'll be ok. A 2 week extension isn't much. Plus, when you get home you're gonna get started in the embassy side of things which will keep you busy, right?

Likely your next trip will be one way! ;)

This is not an issue. I done exactly the same thing the first time I came over to visit my now wife.

I was due to fly back after 2 weeks, but stayed another month. At no time did it come up in the immigration process. So long as you don't go over your 90 day stay then they really could care less. Especially going through a low fraud embassy like London.

Lost_at_sea and ameribrit I thought the same, plus using my air miles (and I obv have tons!) I managed to book a return for Oct 16th, by which point we should have the visa, for less than £300! I couldn't say no. Plus might get some money back from my original return flight too.

Oh and called NVC today, they have our case but said call back next week as its not in the system just yet. Woooo can't wait to get everything moving along!!!
