Hello All,

Thank you in advance for your input. This site has been an indispensable resource for me and my fiance.

My fiance is Japanese and we are on the final stretch of our K-1 application. She is now scheduling a handful of necessary vaccinations and her medical exam for her interview. But we are unfortunately coming down to the wire in terms of time and I was hoping that some of you, especially those of you with recent experience petitioning for a visa on behalf of a Japanese citizen, might offer some input. Our current deadline for the visa interview is August 5th.

1) It seems that, due to a recent change in procedure, there are only four locations that the medical examination for a fiance visa can be completed at. Three of these are in Tokyo and one of them is in Okinawa. Furthermore, these locations request that reservations be made a month in advance. A round trip to Tokyo for my fiance in travel season will cost close to a thousand dollars. She also says that the results of the exam will take time to procure, so she can not schedule both the exam and the interview for the same trip. Is it true that my fiance needs to schedule two trips to Tokyo, one for the exam, and one for the interview?

2) Is it true that the interview for the K-1 visa has to be completed in Tokyo?

3) I understand that is possible to apply for an extension to the deadline for the interview. Do any of you think that this would be recommended in our situation? The deadline for the interview is August 5th, and we have yet to schedule a medical examination. Can you offer any guidance as to what this process involves?

Again, thank you for your time. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Check the Tokyo British clinic. They have a 4 hour rush service or so it seems. Talk with them and maybe schedule a single 5-day trip to Tokyo.
