Hello, i am waiting my CR2 process which is delayed so I asked my lawyer to send an email to NVC

for more information about my visa then she sent the email...

and now she is charging $600 for this email crying.gif

i would like to know if this is normal in America

my father's wife said that she charges $250 for a 30 minutes conversation ranting33va.gif

and we have already paid $9000 for her to fill out our process

Speechless, lawyers can also mess up the process, I am arguing with someone now because their lawyer told them the co-sponsor does not need to turn in any income information for a K-1. Sigh!

I paid $1250 for an immigration specialist to help me fill mine (he is not technically a lawyer) and I was there at his office so often with a million questions plus he did all the emailing on my behalf as well sending all the letters certified mail for me. We had just one time that NVC asked for additional paperwork and he gladly took care of it for us. All in all I was very pleased and I know that if I tried to file it on my own I would have been more stressed so I gladly paid the $1250. We filed (spousal visa) in Oct 2012 and we have the embassy interview this coming July so all in all the process was in average time. $9000 seems insane PLUS to have the nerve to charge you to send an email!

Good luck.

Wow! What did you get for those $9000???

We also had a lawyer, mostly because my hubby was on the road working the whole time, but anyway she charged us an amount and that covered everything that needed to get done in order for us to get our visas. And we weren't even close to paying 9000!! Pay extra for an email....that's just ridiculous!

Man, that is insane! I did everything myself with the help from this site. Never paid an extra penny for any type of lawyer. I wish I was an immigration lawyer. I'd be raking in the dough! Man I'm so sorry to hear that you were robbed by this scammer lawyer.

chan - is possible this is a 'culturally sensitive' price from the lawyer?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Do not use that lawyer anymore. $9000 is far above average for an immigration attorney. You are being swindled. I paid $1700 and that is high considering I still had to do all the paperwork. Do yourself a favor and wisely fire that lawyer and smear their name all over the internet so others do not fall pray to despicable practices form this "lawyer". Then, based on price quotes from similar lawyers, sue them if possible to recoup some of your loss.

It does not take someone to go to law school to know how to pick up a phone and make a call. Nor do you need a lawyer to fill out a form if you are competent human being. I fell for it, hired a lawyer, paid way too much, got smart and fired her and finished on my own. Visa is in our hands, save your money and take charge, you can do this!!!

My friend filed I 130 for his dad himself, then got a law firm after approval

they charged $10,000 (he had issues= past deportation) so it seemed like

that would be what has to be expected after a few other consults, it ranged from

$8000, this firm was waiver experts & had somewhat a good rep,,,what we

eventually learn is they drag their feet if any mthly payments are late, of course

the clients is doing all the work re: what's to be in waiver, facts, HSL,medical

reports & refs, so what waiver attys does is give a little guidance, write a brief

and hopefully if a problem arises address it as an expert & the kicker is there R

no guarantees.

Attys spend lots of money on schooling but many are over charging vulnerable

people , charging a client extra to send an email is thievery , morally & professionally

wrong and its so dyamn hard to get back your money from them. I would not pay that

for an email msg.

Are you under the impressions that every lawyer does the exact same things?

There are countless types of lawyers and just because you get a law degree does not mean it has anything to do with immigration.

That's not to say that he wouldn't have a higher possibility of knowing a good immigration attorney.

However, do you know if this was one he recommended?

Im not saying every lawyer is the same, but if anyone can do it without a lawyer his father in law being a lawyer can help out or at least give some advice or tell him his paying to much. Also if he already sent the email the lawyer should of mention or made him sign something saying how much was it going to be it is ridiculous that he paid him so much for the lwayer to still charge just for an email.

chan - the only other time i've read of outrageous prices for legal services for immigration paperwork

was

from a Hmong visa chaser who's parents engaged a Hmong attorney back in the USA.

It was a big deal for 'face' to engage with a 'like' attorney and pay full retail for everything.

That's why I ask you - was this a culturally sensitive price ?
