Almost like the Wild West, "he died with his boots on..."

More guns, more shoes, less people in line!

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

Michael Jordan was way better than LeBron James.

If you mean as a person, perhaps but if you look at accomplishments before winning a second championship LeBron James has a slight edge.

Michael Jordan was the man though!

Sometimes I wonder what is going wrong with our country... to kill another human being over a pair of sneakers.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-ball-dont-lie/shooter-kills-robber-self-defense-while-waiting-line-215135252.html

A shooter kills a would-be robber in self-defense while waiting in line to buy LeBron James’ signature shoes

Greedy shoe companies making select sneakers needlessly exclusive paired together with consumer exuberance, desperation, and American gun culture on Saturday long enough to cost one would-be alleged robber his life. Shoppers waiting in line to purchase the latest incarnation of LeBron James’ signature shoe outside Atlanta were being harassed by a reported pickpocket until one patron decided to pull a gun out and shoot the as-yet unidentified man in what is being considered a move motivated by self-defense.

Wayne Washington at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution has the story:

Witnesses told one man in line outside Wish, a clothing and shoe store on Moreland Avenue, pulled out a gun and shot the would-be robber.

The shooter then got back in line, according to
Channel 2 Action News
.

Police have not charged anyone and for now consider the shooting to be self-defense. No additional information was being released Sunday morning, said
Officer John Chafee
, an Atlanta Police Department spokesman.

Only 22 pairs of the sneakers were available, but that didn’t stop nearly 50 shoppers from lining up hours before the store opened. The shooting took place at 5:30, five hours before Wish opened its doors to LeBron’s fans.

One witness says the deceased got what he deserved. From the Journal-Constitution:

“He [the shooter] really stood up for all of us,” said Taylor White, who told Channel 2 that he was in line when the shooting happened. “I salute the homie that did that.”

"Would be" robber... it sounds like he didn't rob anybody. I guess the shooter is psychic and knew what the guy was going to do.

I'm not sure what's worse, the guy being killed or the last witness quote "I salute the homie that did that". Friggin animals.

I could just be going way out on a limb here, but since it has so far been considered an act of self defense and unless GA allows deadly force to protect one's place in line for shoes...then there is something in the story that is missing.

Your synopsis is, as you state, a "guess". This is fine if it serves your purpose and you like to form opinions based on guesses and I am glad you at least state that you are guessing.

I would wait to see what happens. There is a possibility that there is nothing wrong with "our country" and that people are allowed to effectively defend themselves.

Why don't we at least wait to see if criminal charges are pressed? I mean, I know it is not necessary to wait for a trial, especially if you are a racist that favors lynching, but can we at least wait until criminal charges are levied to draw conclusions about the country as a whole?

The wild west was much safer than modern cities. This does not happen where everyone can carry concealed handguns.

So when one gets shot and killed for trying to steal weed eaters, it's not political or religious and thus moved to OT. But when one gets shot for trying to pickpocket people waiting in line for sneakers, then that's political or religious or both and thus remains in P&R. Makes perfect sense. wacko.png

I started writing a 2 page response to this policy in OT. I edited and deleted it all. I guess Tbone's favorite thing after he's had a few, is to just run rampant in P&R with his organizer powers. Just the way it is I guess.

there were two threads on the subject, one in ot and one in p&r. i merged them into one and the older thread was in p&r - that's why it's in p&r.

and Trayvon Martin was mentioned several times, and most threads about him are in p&r :P

I'm not being a smarta$$ here, but I'm wondering what makes the Trayvon Martin case political or religious? It's an interesting legal case for sure. The only thing I see political about it is that Obama said something about having a son that might look like the victim. As Mr. Big Dog pointed out, one thread about a guy getting shot while trying steal someone's shoes stays in P&R, as well as a thread about a man dying in a shootout in Fort Worth, but then another thread about a guy getting shot while stealing a weed whacker get's moved to OT. I'm trying to understand the logic.

I wont even get into the Affirmative Action thread.

They used to thread ban people and remove a few posts if they were offensive. That must take more work than just nuking the entire thread.

We moderate around here based on political view point not standards.
