My husband isn't a criminal or terrorist nor was he married prior to our marriage and he still had 4 months of mandatory AP. We didn't need a co-sponsor either. This was also prior to any crisis in Egypt. You are just going to have to wait this out. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it.

Ok i now have different news. Over the last couple days thru all of my emails the new thing is now the case is under "mandatory administrative processing" does this mean that the documents that i sent in to the embassy on the 13th as the officer requested were accepted and now its moved to AP?? I am very confused about what we should do and WHY we were even put into AP. My husband isn't some criminal or terrorist....never been married to anyone and has never been involved in any sort of protests in egypt and is definitely NOT A SPY....Ive already had some "government agency" visit my house during the visa process to interview me about him which ive never heard of .....and now this....

That's good news that your paperwork was accepted.

AP can run the gamut from a few days to a few months to even a year or more (this is not common, but it has happened) and yes I'm talking about Cairo. They won't issue the visa until they complete all those checks and make sure everything is clear. It can take longer when a name is very common, or if it matches other names in their database, or if the beneficiary has traveled to certain countries, etc. Every case is different, but a long AP does not necessarily mean that there is a problem with your case.

I will say that the home visit to you (the petitioner in the US) is very very rare. In more than 8 years on VJ, I have only seen this in a very few cases - I could count them on one hand. More often (and even this is not the usual experience) they will do a home visit to the beneficiary's family or friends in the foreign country. But almost never do they do a home visit to the petitioner. The questions you were asked during that visit may be an indication of what exactly their concerns were.

There's nothing more you can really do at this point, because they will do their work at their own speed. I know it's difficult to be left sitting in limbo - and we all know how bad it feels - we've all been there. But realize that they are dealing with tens of thousands of cases. It almost seems like the length of AP goes in cycles. When we went through immigration it seemed like everyone had at least a couple months of AP, most had more than a couple like 4-9 months. About a year or so later it seemed like everyone flew through AP within a couple weeks to a month. Now it seems to be back to the couple/few months wait time. It's no fun but it's a hell of a lot better than a denial.

So now the embassy is closed, the mailbox is full and I am left trying to figure out what is going on. I feel it is so hypocritical and bad that the embassy closes and the people who have egyptians that that love are face with fear in the upcoming days in egypt.

How long does everyone think the embassy will be closed in Cairo and what happens if its closed for more than a couple days, do our case just sit indefinitely until the embassy opens. I am so upset and full of sadness and im scared for my husband now....he is more or less being held in egypt against his will because he and i have been doing this online relationship now for two years We love each other and we just want to be together. Im sorry if it sounds like im whining but im just upset and i think its so bad that this is happening.....i just want him here:(..

He's not being held against his will. His visa hasn't been issued yet so he couldn't leave even if he wanted to. I don't recall how long it was closed during the revolution of 2011 but I suspect there will be some delay. Even with the embassy closed, he's still in AP. The embassy being closed has no bearing on that. AP could possibly last several months even with the embassy open. You can call, email, show up at their door....they will NOT issue the visa until they are finished processing his AP. You need to calm down and get used to it. NOTHING you can do about it. Do you think you're the only couple in love in an LDR that has to wait? Hundreds of us either were in your position or still are right now. I know exactly how it feels to wait. It was a LONG 4 months but calling DOS and emailing didn't do a damn thing. Whining and throwing fits didn't help either. They finished when they were good and ready.

The process is not kind I think you gathered that by now. If you wanted a pat on the head and a cookie you came to the wrong place. There are so many of us who have gone through the same thing without all the dramatics. If you think the wait is bad, you're in for a treat once your husband gets here and goes through his adjustment and culture shock phase. Waiting for the visa has nothing on that.
