My husband receved his interview at the consulate in Cairo on June 2 2013. He was approved but the consular officer says i need a joint sponser. last year my income was lower and because of that I called the NVC to ask what i should do about this, the NVC stated and i quote" the consular officer is required to look at the current information that you send, if you send all of the current income information and the new I864, since the situation has changed it requires new information, to take it to the interview" I followed the ladys instructions and my husband went in with all of my current information....the officer REFUSED to look at it and said i need a joint sponser.

I Dont know about you but i dont live in 2012 anymore(thank god) and so now my husband and i are waiting because i had to resend the documents via DHL back to the embassy in cairo that the officer was supposed to look at.

Since i have sent the documents (and while i was in cairo) i was trying to make an appoitment to speak to someone, and now i am gone i have been sending emails everyday and calling and i cannot get any help from anyone there. I have involved my senator and the bureau of consular affairs but they say to wait a month....why should we have to wait a month for something this officer refused to look at from the beginning?

I am wondering if I am missing something? Does anyone know another way for me to actually speak to someone in cairo who knows what is happeneing??? I am so frustrated and I just want to be with my husband, and its testing both of our paitence to the brink of just throwing up our hands because it feels like we will never be together.......

why did the consular officer refuse to see the documents that the NVC said that he is required to see??

it just makes no sense.....

Im so upset and angry and i just want us to be together.....

does anyone have any advice??

The CO is not required to do anything that NVC says.

The CO is the boss

What it looks like is you have some red flags and now the CO is refusing your income and your sons as a reason to delay your visa

Your come is 40,000 a year but it is new employment?

So the CO has the right to reject it. Becuase it is not considered stable

Usually the CO in Cairo refuses to accept any info at the interview, especially if they see other red flags

Do you have different religions?

Did you convert to Islam while you know him?

How much time did you spend with him in person?

How many times have you gone to see him?

How much older are you then him?

Do you have his family support? Pics with them and letters of approval from them?

Did you petition anyone else before

Has he been petitoned by anyone else before?

Has he been involved with other american women?

Is this an arranged marriage?

Did you know him since you were a kid?

Anyhow, he was not denied

they want a cosponsor with solid income

not commission or new hired

Submit the proof and he will be in AP for an unknown amount of time then get the visa

You'll just have to wait I'm sorry. But the CO doesn't have to look at anything brought to the interview. Everything they should need should be in their hands before the interview. Often they've already made up their mind before the interview takes place.

If you currently make enough, sending the information like you did is all you can do besides for getting a joint sponsor.

Best of luck to you.

AP for men in Egypt is VERY common. Would you like me to move your case to the MENA forum for better response?

Have you actually got a joint sponsor and sent in the forms for the joint sponsor?

Because this is what the CO has actually asked you for and is waiting for. Not any more proof of your own income.

Regardless of what NVC and your attorney have told you, the most recent and relevant information you have is from the CO as of June 2nd - which is to send in forms for your joint sponsor.

Do not worry. There are some men who get the visa quick. But right now with the turmoil between usa and egypt there are many men in extended ap. A couple have gotten it quick. Just plan on a 6 month ap and be happy when he gets it in 2 months.

MENA is the abbreviation for Middle East & North Africa and what NikkiR was asking is if you wanted the thread moved to the MENA regional forum here on VJ.

With last year you not making the guideline and you just starting a new job they don't feel confidant. You have to have a co-sponsor.

many people on VJ wrongly tell people that current is all that matters and that is so not true for many embassies. So get the co-sponsor and prepare for some AP.

remember "delayed but not denied".

I agree. The OP should just submit the document that the CO has requested.

Ok i now have different news. Over the last couple days thru all of my emails the new thing is now the case is under "mandatory administrative processing" does this mean that the documents that i sent in to the embassy on the 13th as the officer requested were accepted and now its moved to AP?? I am very confused about what we should do and WHY we were even put into AP. My husband isn't some criminal or terrorist....never been married to anyone and has never been involved in any sort of protests in egypt and is definitely NOT A SPY....Ive already had some "government agency" visit my house during the visa process to interview me about him which ive never heard of .....and now this....

does anyone have any suggestions.....with the crisis in egypt and with the embassy closing im afraid we will never be together.....

What it means is the CO is waiting for the joint sponsor paper work they requested.

Many times in the last year people going through Cairo will meet the income requirement but the CO will ask for a joint sponsor anyways. The longer you wait on getting a joint sponsor the longer the delay. Don't delay getting the paperwork they requested. I've seen them send the paperwork back to the States with denial or the clock runs out and it expires because the requests were not met.

While the situation is very loose or very fluid right now the Embassy watches the events and does what they can to return operations to normal.
