Hi all- I am an April filer and have been having some questions for those who have been trough the whole K1 process or those further through it than I am.

First off, what am I to expect to find from now to my NOA2 regarding the initial review? Since May 14, my status has said the Alien Reg. number has been changed, and I am not sure if that will change again, or if it will remain that way until I receive the NOA2.

Another question- how bad is it that I did not make copies of my I-129f packet? I didn't think it was necessary until I saw on here that everyone is doing it. I'm slightly worried that I will need the documents later! Of course, I know how I filled my packet out- I have the cover letter, letters of Intent and a few bits I sent in regarding evidence of having met all saved on my computer, so if I must, I can rebuild the packet. I'm just wanting to know how necessary that will be!

Thanks for any feedback!!

Don't worry about the copy. The main reason for having on is in case the original gets lost (which happens sometimes, ugh). Your i-129f package will be forwarded to London via the NVC once you're approved, so they'll get everything that was in it.

I don't understand the first part of your question... what are you expecting to find until NOA2? A whole lot of waiting... not much else. Alien registration number often updates just before approval, but also often just after submission, so it's not indicative of much. It likely won't change again until approval, unless you get an RFE. You'll be expecting a 5 - 9 month wait for your petition to approve, and then you're on to NVC and the next steps! After which, I recommend you visit the UK section of the forum for tailored advice. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/99-united-kingdom/

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply! For the first question, I just wanted to know if there were more updates that I would have during the initial review or if my status would stay the same up until NOA2 (of course, assuming I do not get an RFE).

Again, thanks for your time!

Not really, no. Recently, a bunch of people had notifications that their case was transferred to a different service centre, because the original one was too overloaded. That could happen, but it's not very likely. On the whole, the status updater is the bringer of not much interesting news until your approval. :) Good luck.

You might notice a new date on the latest update that may just mean the box your file is in got moved to a different shelf. It will drive you mad to check it every day. Sign up for text alerts and you will know of a change, then can go look online. When your case finally makes it out of storage to an adjudicator, he could find he needs more info and your status update will say an RFE was sent.

You don't need a copy of the I-129 packet. You saved the forms if you want to look at them again. You don't need it for anything down the line in immigration.

There is a thread with a UK list of things to prepare while you wait on the NOA2. You could start reading that. Then no mad rush to learn it all and do it all at the last minute. Like the UK person could learn about the immunizations needed and go get them. They don't expire. The police certificate is good for 12 months, so good to have in hand by the time NOA2 arrives. List is here http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/350185-london-2012-k1s-from-noa2-to-interview-thread/ (Sorry the police link changed, but is corrected down a few posts).

Oh and change your timeline to the correct Service Center. You mailed to a lockbox in Texas, but that is not the Texas Service Center. Your case number will be WAC for California (CSC) or EAC for Vermont (VSC). Your timeline will give you a predicted approval based on others at the same service center. It will change as people amend or update their timelines.
