Not sure if I'm overreacting or not, but here's the situation:

My conditional green card expires 9/26, we're in the process of gathering info to file the I-751 later this month (within the 3 month window), and we just received a letter from the USCIS. As it turns out, we forgot to file an ar-11 when we moved (same city, about 10 blocks south) last year. The USCIS letter was to inform us that we need to file an I-751, which we already knew. The new tenants at our old house marked the letter "return to sender" and with our forwarding info we left at the post office, they shipped the letter to us, along with a form ar-11 to fill out since we clearly forgot to earlier.

I filled out the ar-11 online and submitted it today. Should I wait for a receipt or anything before travelling? I'm originally from Vancouver, and now live in Seattle, and am heading up to Canada to visit family. Will I have any problems reentering the states because I filed my ar-11 late?

1. The ROC letter is sent to wherever the GC was sent. They don't update addresses for that letter. But, the return to sender caught them up.

2. You shouldn't worry.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Do not forget to have the USC sponsor file the I-865 form before you complete the I-751. You the immigrant and the USC sponsor are to complete an address change within 10 days of moving until you become a USC for the AR-11 and you are not longer bound by the I-864 for the USC. The change of address has nothing to do with travel. You should have printed out the confirmation page when you submitted the AR-11 on-line as you typically will not get any confirmation that you completed the change of address. We DID do the change of address and a forward order with the USPS and our ROC notification was sent to the old address and then sent back to the USCIS who then forwarded to our new address. They put an AR-11 in the notice too. I just sent in the confirmation page with the confirmation number and date and a copy of my NOA from the I-865 to show that WE did do the change of address and it was THEIR records that were not up to date. Not a big issue unless you have a petition or application pending.

Good luck,

Dave
