Good day!

Is there a link of the difference between the household member and joint sponsor?

Met in person : 2009-02-24
Second visit : 2010-03-12
Married : 2012-07-17
I-130 Sent : 2013-01-23
I-130 NOA1 : 2013-01-28
NOA2 : 2013-05-16

NVC Received : 2013-06-10
Pay AOS Bill : 2013-06-25
Return I 864: 2013-06-26
Return DS 3032: 2013-07-01

Genesis 2:22-24
Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman, ' for she was taken out of man." For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

A joint sponsor can be anyone. A household member is generally someone who lives at the same house as you and with whom you would combine income with. A husband and a wife would be household members. A adult child who lives at home and is claimed as a dependant may be a household member.

Generally speaking unless you need to combine income to qualify (which can ONLY be done with household members) then it's better to qualify individually because there are less people needed for the poverty guidelines.

Thank you very much NikiR. I fully understood now. smile.png

So my husband's sister can be a joint sponsor bec she is qualify individually as my sponsor even though they are living in the same address.

If she claims him on her taxes then yes; if she doesn't then no, it's just the immigrant added to her household size.

Most of the time you don't see siblings claiming other siblings as dependants.

i see..thanks...and one more thing..sorry to bother, have another question..we have another sponsor, my husband's brother-in-law. In this situation, they have a joint itr with his wife (which is not a sponsor), does his wife needs to fill up that form as well? the i864a? she's not working now and also a dependent of his husband..tnx.

If she doesn't work then no she doesn't have to, he can also submit his entire tax return vs his tax transcript.
