I know how these nightmares originated. One of the worst fears a person can have happened to me. There was someone under my bed who waited until I fell asleep and then tried to attack me. This happened many many years ago but finds it's way back to me through nightmares every now and then. I have spoke to my doctor about it. I do not wish to take sleeping medications as a precaution. I guess all I can do is get through another series of them and hope that they go away soon.

I'm very sorry for that. I still believe your dreams are trying to get you to face that fear and overcome it. It's not going to be easy, but writing in a journal would help. Have you tried placing your mattress on the floor?

I am told by my fiancé that periodically I awaken at least twice a week screaming in terror. Lucky guy, eh? It's pretty much classic night terrors. I panic, yell, and drop back to sleep as soon as he hugs me. He's usually awake for another ten minutes. ;)

At least I don't sleepwalk. My sisters used to when they were younger.

You can see a doctor. For me they manifest more when I'm stressed.

I make my hubby look under the bed every night before I go to bed. lol.......I used to work in the travel industry and would never sleep in a room where the bed was open underneath.

When I was little I used to have night terrors. But I had a very good life and wasn't stressed out. Maybe it was food I ate or something...but to be honest the only thing that helped me overcome those and still helps me if I have problems with nightmares is praying. I know not everyone believes in praying, etc. But for me I ask God to guard my mind/thoughts while I sleep so I don't have nightmares. It may sound childish to do, but it's the only thing that has ever worked for me. :) I used to have weird supernatural type of nightmares, which would really freak me out. I hardly get nightmares anymore now when I really pray that they won't happen.

:star::thumbs: It's good to have someone who understands your fears like that. My ex-wife was abused as a young child - her stepfather would often pull out of bed at night. She was very jumpy when she slept and it was some years before I could plant a kiss on her cheek or touch her without her jumping up in terror.

Sounds like it could be Post Traumatic Stress. I know it usually affects soldiers, but it can affect anybody who hasn't properly dealt with a traumatic event in their lives. Sometimes it can take years to manifest and these dreams coming and going is definitely one of the symptoms. Maybe it would be worth your while to set up a few sessions of therapy. No shame in that!
