What's for Dinner?

My wife and I had homemade frilled chicken hoagies last night.

Has anyone here ever had Swedish meatballs? I've heard that Americans think Swedish meatballs are big, baseball-sized monstrosities. Good Swedish meatballs should never be that big. In this case, smaller is better.

My wife and I have made meatballs a fair number of times since I came here about 6 months ago. We usually eat it in the traditional style, that is to say with boiled potatoes, cream sauce and lingonberry preserves. Furthermore, you can also have pickles, and a lettuce & tomato salad with the meal, if you are so inclined. I hear they serve meatballs with mashed potatoes and cream sauce at IKEA, even back in Sweden they serve it this way nowadays, but we always had boiled potatoes when I grew up.

Y'all should try it some time. It's very good. if anyone wants the recipe, I'd be glad to share.

I hit my IKEA once a week, minimum and have a plate exactly as you've described. 10 years ago, when I first tried it, I thought the cream sauce looked yukky, but the taste mixed with the ligonberry preserves is amazing. Almost better than poutine gravy, and that's saying a lot (for me).

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Expect them to be hit or miss, just like restaurants. There are some excellent gourmet food trucks. You just gotta know where to find them.

Early dinner/late lunch. Beer can chicken, fresh Brazilian vinaigrette-similar to salsa, red beans and rice Cajun style.

Sounds good! What happened to the jambalaya recipe that you mentioned a few years ago?

oh don't get me wrong.. it was all the top folks, the grilled cheese dudes from food network, the lobster truck and such.. it was just parking on a street and eating on the sidewalk.. when good service and location makes the food taste better, it also works the other way around

never again.. ofc unless my wife wants to when she comes lol :)

I haven't made jambalaya for a looong time. Thanks for reminding me. I'll have to plan on making it in the near future. We are going to eat shortly. The chicken is probably done and the rice needs another ~15 minutes. The grill temp is about 320, so it's safe to leave it there for a while, plus it is indirect heat.

I think I'll wait until tomorrow to make a good supper - maybe perogies tonight? I would like to find a place that makes them vs the bag from Walmart. Dunno

The two nights fishing were burgers and potatoes with onions and bell peppers. First night was supposed to be rainbow trout but it took 3 men 45 mins to set up a portable BBQ and the trout went bad because they forgot to put them on ice. LOL

Have you ever tried the Mrs. T's pierogies? They're frozen and as long as you don't overcook them they aren't too bad.

I've only been able to find this one type where I live thus far. But I've only been here 3 weeks too! I'll look around though.
