TRANSLATION OR NOTARIAL

So I thought I had all my documents for my K1 visa next week as per the embassy's own website:

Just Now I receive an email after paying the Visa fee with the following link:

http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/callcenter/k_application.html

this one says:

• Translations: All documents not in English must be accompanied by certified English translations. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator that state that the translation is accurate, and sworn to before a Notary Public.

the first link above which is the main one says nothing aboutgetting documents signed by a notary public.

could people who have had the interview in London please tell me if their transalted documetns where witnessed by a public notary?

it's ridiculous that i'm only seeing this now as i could have paid just a day before my interview. it could cost a load to get them all translated again and the pay a notary so could people please tell me what their experiences are?

I'm a notary - just to clarify. it's not your translation that needs notarized it's the statement by whomever translated it that states that the translation is accurate which needs to be notarized.

I've never seen that page before. You are the first person to post that link. Perhaps others who have paid a month or so back can share if that link came with their receipt. I don't recall anybody previously reporting their translations were rejected for lack of notarization. Of course fewer London people have documents not in English.

If it's new thing, maybe you will do those coming after you a favor and ask the interviewer to explain why notification of the requirement doesn't come earlier if it is critical to the process.

I saw it by somebody called 'Fast Track' on here to in September 2012 - exactly the same situation at London....

Her post didn't continue though so I don't know what she did....

Really really frustrating - could cost me £250 to get translation done again and then some solicitor to sit there and watch him sign it and I don't even know if I need it.

I called the embassay rip off line who told me that I don't need notary signature but it's difficult to take some call center person's word for it when there is a written record online....

The translation does not need to be re-done. All you need to do is get a statement from whomever translated the document to certify that the translation is accurate. It's that statement you need notarized not the actual translation. You can in fact translate the document yourself if you are fluent in the language and then get your statement of accuraty which certifies the translation notarized - there have been several posts recently on what "certified translation" means.

This is the statement that needs to be notarized by anyone fluent in the language who is able to translate the document (if you are fluent in the language, you can translate it yourself and then have this document (certification) notarized http://www.visajourney.com/content/translations

I have been confused too with something similar.Marriage certificate ??? A long time ago i was married in France,then divorced,when i read that i needed a marriage certificate i thought What ?? this was last week ! I tried looking up links on here for info why a marriage certificate is needed,nobody has asked for that even with the RFE,ive been divorced a decade,i couldnt find any links that helped,i decided to best follow what the americans ask for so then i tried the register of Births deaths and marriages,a curt young woman told me they keep the marriage certificate for public records after a divorce and i can only have a photocopy, for £5,she said it wouldnt be any use at the interview because its just a photocopy,so i rang the solicitor i used,they checked my file and they dont have a copy of the marriage certificate ( one solicitor during the divorce left my file in her car while she went shopping and her car was broken into,i was compensated and she lost her job but it seems the certified copy was one thing in that file i needed now ) The solicitor couldnt understand why i needed one,he said that its usually a woman that has to provide one because of changing her surname to her married name and its so they can trace back ( much like the long birth certificate i think ) and i probably wouldnt need one or be asked for one ? It was suggested i write to the place in France for the public records there to send me a copy,i was in panic mode since my interview date is on the !st Aug .Anyway after turning the house upside down i have found a copy in my files of the original marriage certificate 'Extrait D'Acte de marriage' with the town hall stamp so i guess its certified,but its french,it has all the details of me and my ex like birth date,birthplace etc and it has the wording for what those details are i.e nom de famille du mari, etc and in the main european languages below the french wording so you can read what it details,but even now im not sure if i need to get the whole thing translated so its idiot proof,and somebody to swear its a genuine marriage certificate from france ?

My husband was married before. He turned in his divorce decree at his K1 interview but not his marriage certificate. That's all I can offer--one personal experience.
