Still no GC or welcome letter 2 months after interview

My wife and I are in the exact same situation almost to the letter. We were married in July 2012 and our interview was 2 months ago. We were told by the officer that everything looked great (she actually said we brought more evidence than she usually sees) and we would hear something in 1-2 weeks. After 2 months we have heard nothing other than the I-130 being approved and our status on the website has not changed. I finally made an Infopass appointment today for next Wednesday and we are going to make the 3 hour drive over and see what the hell is going on. I suggest you also go the Infopass route and good luck.

We thought we were the only ones who has been waiting past the 2 months post interview mark. Ours was on April 30th and we still haven't heard anything not even for the I-130. Please let us know how your infopass goes and what they tell you. I have one schedule for next week too, so I'll share my findings too. Good luck

What does everyone else have to say about this? Did everyone on here that was approved get an approval paper at the interview and got their i94 taken away?

I don't know about the letter, but your I 94 not being taken away is most likely because you still have a valid F1 status /Visa. Mine was given back to me by the IO because of my F 1 status she said. Plus it doesn't mean anything if your I 94 is taken or not.

Well the morning of the Infopass I checked her status online and it had flipped to approved. The Welcome Letter is on the way and the green card shall shortly follow. Apparently the field officer and our case officer in particular was just behind in her approvals. Good luck guys!

Just got back from my infopass appointment and wanted to update you all.

Had my appointment at the Chicago office at 9:30 this morning. When I first walked in I had a conversation with a rude lady that went kind of like this:

lady: Why are you here?
me: I had my interview on April 23rd an--

lady: Interview for what? Citizenship?

me: No, interview for my green card. And the officer told me that I would receive my green card in the mail 4 weeks after the interview and it has been 2 and a half months.

lady: Officers always say things they shouldn't say. Sometimes it takes longer than what they have told you and we can not know exactly why its taking so long on your specific case. Do you have the name of the officer?

me: Yes, I do.

lady: You can write him a letter. Tell him your case and include all your information.

me: Do I address it to this building?

lady: Yes, this building. Since you are already here have an appointment anyway but we will not be able to tell you why its taking so long. Fill this form out and take a seat.

me: uhhh, ok.

So I proceeded to wait for my appointment. I was seen by a really nice officer. She was really helpful and looked up and tracked my case on her computer. She said that my case had been sent to storage and that this means that my case is probably approved because denied cases are sent somewhere else. She said that if she usually finds a case in storage it means it has been approved (yay! good news). She then said that sometimes when the officer approves the case in the system, for some reason sometimes rarely the system doesn't recognize it/or it doesnt go through. The officer doesn't know this and therefore sends the case to storage thinking it has already been taken care of. She requested my case to be brought up from storage and told me it would take about a week. She took my phone number and said she would call me when the case was out of storage and that she would then send it to the original officer to approve it (again?). She even apologized and said that sometimes this happens but they will work to help it move forward. Again, she was really nice and helpful. She was hopeful that I would get my GC in the next few weeks. No need to write my original officer a letter!

I'm still not sure what to think of it all. It was good news overall, but I still don't want to get my hopes up. Anyone else wanna share about their infopass appointments? I will update when/if I get the phone call.

Woah...I'm surprised to read how long it took for you guys to AOS....I guess we were really lucky then. We sent our package in September 2012, and basically GC was in our hands at the end of November 2012...I'm sorry to hear this great delay...maybe they are getting overwhelmed due to the legalization of illegals? o.O (too many applicants all of a sudden...)

Hypnos,

I was told I was approved during my July 2 interview as well, and yet my online case status hasn't changed, not have I received anything in the mail. The odd thing is that the IO said it would take nine weeks or sooner for me to get my card. Do you recommend an Infopass at my two-week mark?

Blue Bianchi

As Harpa said, you will need to make an Infopass at the local office where your interview was conducted and enquire as to why your approval has not been formally processed; you will not be able to do anything of worth over the phone.

I had a similar issue, the officer said I was approved but I received nothing in the mail at all and my online status did not change. My lawyer happened to be at the same office on unrelated business and enquired about my case then, and was told that the officer was "behind on his approvals" but would "get around to it".

It took about a month to formally receive my approval, despite the officer verbally stating that I was approved at the interview.

Hypnos,

Thank you for your recommendation to wait a bit before requesting an Infopass. Got text and email updates yesterday saying my I-485 has been approved and is in card production, and my I-130 has been approved as well. I had gotten a bit antsy after my cohorts in the March 2013 AOS Filers group received quick status updates after their interview approvals. Waiting a bit saved me a trip to the local office.

I've seen your sage posts on other VJ forums, and I think that it's great that you are helping people out this way. You, Darnell, Harpa Timsah, and Penguin_Le are my favorites: all clear communicators with frank advice and different flavors of sense of humor. Thanks again!

Blue Bianchi

I'd recommend an Infopass at the 30 day mark.

Thank you for all the information you posted on your case. I'm in the same situation here. Two weeks have passed since the interview and status hasn't changed nor have I received anything in the mail. IO gave me two letters during the interview: the approval letter (unsigned) and the letter on how to remove the conditions on the green card. I was starting to worry until I saw your posts.

Just in case, I scheduled an Infopass appointment (Nov. 15) to try to get the passport stamped. I need to travel in December and I don't want any eventual F2A retrogression to affect my case... Hopefully, I will get an status update before that.

Will keep those interested here updated.
