"The U.S. Consulate in Manila is not required to accept financial co-sponsor documentation, and they currently are not accepting co-sponsors for K visa processing. You must qualify on your own and must have current, stable employment in the U.S."

I was told this by an attorney, is there any truth to this that the consulate in Manila does not accept co-sponsors.

I am a student right now but I have free rent and a willing co-sponsor.

Manila is very strict about cosponsors. On the very rare occassion that they may accept a cosponsor, the relationship to the cosponsor is scrutinized. Not just any willing cosponsor would be accepted in the rare event that they would allow one. To even be considered, the cosponsor would have to be closely related to the sponsor and even then there is no guarantee that they will be accepted.

Members that have gone through Manila also report the same. It does seem however from members reports that they have accepted a sponsor other than the petitioner if they were a close family member.

Hi Aussie, I am glad you replied to this topic. It really uplifted my spirits. I'll tell you why,As stated before- I said the represenitive I talked to at the Embassy said they will accept a co-sponsor for a K-3 but not a K-1 and it wasnt 20 minutes after I posted that reply that I was on the phone with the Embassy in manila asking about Maries K-3 and then asking about using a co-sponsor. The lady on the phone said they will not accept a co-sponsor for a K-3 but they will for the IR1/CR1- I was very saddened by this but what could i do-anyway I called again and talked to another lady and told her what the first lady said and asked her if we should forget about the K-3 and she indicated that we should still try to pursue the K-3 because its really up to the Officer whether or not they will accept a co-sponsor. She said that she has no way of knowing whether or not cases have been accepted or denied because of a co-sponsor so I thought to myself "then how could this other lady tell me that" maybe because she was informed to tell people that by her supervisor to help cut down on the enormous flow of K-3 applicants they receive. The second lady told me that K-3 used to only take about 3 months but now takes about 6 months so obviously they really are backed up. So could it be possible this lady was told by her superior's to tell people that K-3's cant use a co-sponsor to help keep the flow down? Whatever the case is we are going to try the K-3 using a co-sponsor,My Brother is the co-sponsor and makes 3 times the guideline amount required for our case and I make enough money now to meet the guideline but not for yr/2005-so Im hoping and praying he will grant maries K-3

What may be confusing the issue is that there is no joint sponsor with the I-134, only a sponsor. If the petitioner does not meet the poverty guidelines another sponsor can be used. Quite often though an affidavit from the petitioner may be required even though they do not meet the requirements. Its the terminology used that can confuse people. So in effect what you have been told from the consulate is correct. Only a sponsor is accepted with the I-134, whether that be the petitioner or someone else. It is not termed as a joint sponsor, like it is with the I-864, where a joint sponsor can be used, or including the I-864A if using household income.

I wish you all the best with the interview. Let us know what happens with the I-134.

Yes-now it makes sense.Thats why the lady said told me they dont accept co-sponsors for a K-3 and thats why there is no mention of a co-sponsor when reading the instructions,etc... about a I-134. Thanks Aussie,You made my Day. Were going to go for the K-3, I will be sure to post in detail how the interview went. Thanks Again- Gary

my cousin (the USC), his gf and their baby went through K1. he stayed in the Philippines for the duration of the petition thus he had no income to show for. he had his dad and his brother co-sponsor him (he was and is living with them.)

the glitches for him were...he needed to show his DOMICILED status (since he lived in the Philippines for almost a year) and the baby's citizenship status.

they just arrived in the US more than a month ago and getting married this Friday.
