When we File I-148 for change of status or residency, we used my maiden name because we are not sure of using my husband last name. Until I've done the interview we ask the lady to possible change my maiden name to my husband last name and she said she had done it already and got approved hand over the paper printed that my name was change. But when my green card arrives last two weeks it wasn't change into my husband's last name. And, I don't want any hassle about it, My question was Is it ok to leave it as is? is there any cons of not changing my maiden name to my husband last name if we file again after 2 years... this bothers me a lot.

We call the customer service of USCIS that we have to return the card if we file about the errors and I've read it here that it might take few months to receive a new one, how can I suppose to travel I have not file the permit to travel.

Would really appreciate you kind comments. Thank you!

You can do it either way. If you want to have the name changed on the GC I would recommend you set up an Infopas and speak to someone in person. If you are fine with the GC in your maiden name you can leave it be. It will not harm or hinder your ROC in any way. On this day and age there is no longer a presumption that a wife should take her husband's name.

IMHO, if your name on the GC matches the one on your passport you should leave it be. It will make it easier for you when traveling abroad.

Good luck!

Hello Gegel, I'm actually considering not to change my gc. But my husband want it in respect to our union anyways. I'm glad you reply to my post. Thank you I appreciate that.

You may have to pay to change the name by filing the I-90 form and paying $450 OR you can wait for 2 years and when you file for removal of conditions (ROC) change the name at that time by using your husband's name on the form. As Gegel says, there is no harm in not changing the lastname. In fact international travel with teh passport name and GC name the same makes buy the tickets easier and you do not have to carry around a copy of the Marriage Certificate.

If you do have to return the card, insist on getting an I-551 stamp in your passport. That will be your GC until the physical card arrives again. My wife has kept her maiden name. I feel no more or less married as it is just a name. Why get hung up on a name when there are more pressing problems to over come in every marriage like what is for dinner and who is going to cook it?

Good luck,

Dave

Keeping your green card in your maiden name will make traveling easier. I wanted my wife to keep her maiden name for that reason but she wanted to take my last name. So we were sure to make her middle name her family name, as she didn't have one, to help with traveling but now she has to carry the marriage certificate at least until she gets her green card.

travel? like, out of the country?

greencard name matches passport name? wow ! That's perfect ! No further hassle at any immigration point.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

you don't have to decide to do anything, really.

Tell yer husband yer a feminist and refuse to change yer name. Millions of womens in the USA don't change their name, it's all good.
