The Boston suspects called a mosque and said they were going to build a "death ray" ? Wow, the media totally didn't cover that !

In fact, the FBI was warned. It ignored at least two warnings it was given about the older Tsarnaev brother.

I would hope out classification for Islamist terrorists would be a little less stringent that Russia's.

Well.... I guess if the FBI isn't going to do anything about it when a foreign government gives them repeated warnings about somebody's activities, then I guess that must be the mosque's fault. (You weren't the one who implied it - someone else did, and that was what I was responding to.)

I know. I don't care about the direct they were taking anymore than you. I'm just a little leary of taking Russia's word on someone being a terrorist. At this point, that's someone that plays music in a church. I'm not comfortable giving up the individual liberties that would eliminate domestic terrorism. From what I recall, the FBI was monitoring this family but either lacked the evidence or resources to pin an arrest on them.

I didn't say that the FBI should go and arrest people based purely on warnings from a foreign government. But conducting an investigation should probably include getting local law enforcement involved. They never told the Boston police anything. And there are certainly legal ways to conduct surveillance on people to see if they're Googling instructions on how to build a bomb, buying supplies to make bombs, etc. And the US has not been too overly concerned with civil liberties when it comes to Muslims - look at all the Muslims who were rounded up after 9/11, even some after the Boston bombing - for no other reason than because they were Muslim or dark-skinned. So this appears to be a case of the FBI dropping the ball. As for the mosque mentioned by the other poster - I have not seen any reports of anyone at the mosque knowing of or being involved with the bombing.

I watched Frontline on PBS last night and it was based on the information gathering 2001 through the Boston Bombings.They stated that because of the wide spread data gathering they do now over 5000 reports come in daily. Proving that unless you filter every threat data-mining actually hides the true threats and dilutes the ability to thwart terror acts.

Not to mention the dilution of real threat investigation when the FBI is constantly creating their very own terror plots, complete with plants bribing people with cash and BMWs to get them to go along with the plots the FBI made up in the first place.
