"The producers of an upcoming documentary on TWA Flight 800—which exploded and crashed into the waters off Long Island, N.Y., on July 17, 1996, killing all 230 people on board—claim to have proof that an explosion outside the Paris-bound flight caused the crash. And six former investigators who took part in the film say there was a cover-up and want the case reopened.

"There was a lack of coordination and willful denial of information," Hank Hughes, a senior accident investigator for the National Transportation Safety Board, said on Wednesday during a conference call with reporters. "There were 755 witnesses. At no time was information provided by the witnesses shared by the FBI."

That's why I've never completely trusted the governments version of anything they investigated. The truth can sometimes be vastly different based on the outcome they need.

It does make you wonder if it was shot down, who shot it down?

Because if the US thought it was a terrorist act I'm sure they'd fully expose that information. So in my opinion it only leaves two other possible reasons; the military shot it down on accident or it was shot down on purpose.

I'd check the manifest of who was aboard. Possibly someone needed to be silenced.

But it's only speculation...I'm sure they'll never divulge the truth.

It does make you wonder if it was shot down, who shot it down?

What I often wonder in similar cases is why do people wait for such a long time to come forward? Why did they not call the NYT and blew their whistles back then when the evidence was fresh and the case still hot?

I think whistle-blowing back then was not as common...it's really not that common today. Most people just want to keep their job, I get that. You blow the whistle, protection or not, be willing to lose everything.

But they did wait a long time to come forward.

I read that there are also theories that it was a particle beam accident by the Brookhaven National Laboratories that's 12 miles away from the accident.

But who knows what the truth is now?
