I've been happy with my HP M407. Looks like it's going for about $130 though.

How long have you had it?

I bought it in June of '05 and it's held up well. I think I paid at least $200 for it at the time, so the price has come down quite a bit. I'm not a professional photographer by any means. But it takes nice photos and has served my casual picture-taking needs well.

I'm guessin youre talkin bout point n shoot models... is more a compact size something to consider? motion pics too? or just stills?

Canon and/or Nikon makes some rather good ones. and best buy had a few specials goin on that you might take a look at.

I highly recommend the Canon Powershot models. I researched digital cameras about 5 years ago and found them the best picture and ease of use for the money. I've been purchasing new ones ever since and handing down my old ones, and never dissatisfied with any of them. If you can find last year's model you can get a decent camera at a great price.

My fiance ultimately persuaded me to buy Canon Powershot. The model bought costed $200 - not what I wanted to spend on digital cameras for kids. I bought two because both kids asked for digial cameras for xmas.

Thanks to everyone else for your advice and recommendations!

Luis bought an HP once that didn't last 6 months, he said he'll never buy HP again.

Dad has a Sony Cybershot DSC-F707 for years now and it's an amazing camera! True it costs him over 1500 bucks when he bought it but after years the camera is perfect, the pictures are perfect, and we have no complaints AT ALL. I wish I could get my hands on one. Btw, it's been discontinued, so no, I can't get my hands on one. It's a 5 megapixels, 5x zoom, and a whole bunch of other stuff!

I really need to start collecting commissions from Canon for all the cameras I've sold for them. ;)

Don't worry, I've had an HP for at least a year and a half now and I've had no problems.
