this kid isn't going to see jail time. his parents will have to pay a fine for their son's tshirt "rebellion"

The parents won't pay a fine for the t-shirt rebellion but for their son not following the orders of a police officer. He's not charged with any t-shirt related offenses, after all.

Charles changed it.

And the year alluded to is not from "wearing a t-shirt"

Really are we going to have an fight over the name of the topic?

Most ppl commenting on the topic are aware of the incident and know what the reference is in this thread.

Should the officer be charged for child endangerment, over use of the authority?

technically it all comes down to a stupid tshirt. a friggin cop should have never been involved in the first place. and cops certainly wouldn't have been involved if this was kept a simple dress code issue, if the shirt in question was of iron maiden or nwa. or if it was 1987.

So a cop tell you to be quite ? I was not aware the police now had the right to suspend your 1st amendment as well as second.

No, why? The officer did not harm the child. The officer gave lawful orders which the little brat thought he could just disregard. Think he'll find out that that's not how it works.

Officer did put the kid in handcuff in front of his friends and fellow students would that not traumatize the child?

http://news.yahoo.com/14-old-kid-arrested-over-pro-nra-shirt-071819724.html

The West Virginia eighth-grader who was suspended and arrested in late April after he refused to remove a t-shirt supporting the National Rifle Association appeared in court this week and was formally charged with obstructing an officer.

As CBS affiliate WTRF reports, 14-year-old Jared Marcum now faces a $500 fine and a maximum of one year in prison.

What's wrong with people?

That's easy, Marvin -

The family unit the boy is part of, has experienced moral decay.

His actions and decisions clearly reflect that.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Not really. Boy could have done the right thing and followed the instructions of the law enforcement officer. He would not be facing charges that way. It's a little like getting pulled over for a minor deal. The way you interact with the officer often plays a big part on whether or not you get a ticket.

generally speaking, there is no need for a school to call the cops over a dress code issue.

Just thought need to bring up all of the user are adult and its ridiculous when we argue about how the thread is named.

Well, when a thread is named in a way that looks like, 14-year old kid gets a year in jail for wearing an NRA t-shirt and the content of the article linked says a 14-year old teen that wore an NRA TShirt to school could face a $500 fine and up to a year in jail for obstructing an officer, it makes me think the entire article is bait or that the OP was not precisely what the OPer wanted and was changed accordingly. But I guess I'm the child because I think it should say what the article says instead of what someone got out of it. You know, there's a reason yahoo titled the article the way they did. Because that's what happened.

Bingo!

Unless the student becomes unruly enough for the teachers to call the cops. That's a call the teachers made. Don't know why the cop would be faulted for that. Be all that as it may, once the cop is there, it's best not to mouth off to him but to follow his instructions. Unless you want to face charges, that is.

i have a feeling that this kid's parents have been filling his head with nra 'they're tryina take our gunz' hype and this kid thought he was defending the constitution with a tshirt. golf clap, kid. next step is change.org for the mass petitions!
