jury duty

I received a letter in the mail notifying me that I needed to report for jury duty. I would imagine that it means selection. I am amazed that I would even get a letter because I have been in the U.S. for only a year and a half. I have my 2 year conditional greencard. Does anyone know if you can do jury duty if you are not a citizen? I was just wondering. Thanks

I think all courts require citizenship to qualify to sit on ajury, but it is left up to the jurisdiction of the court itself to determine who can serve. Even if you are called to serve you can not ignore the order to serve, you would just need to have yourself excused because you are not qualified. Is there a place to check this on the form and you can mail it in?

Yes, there is a place on the form that asks if you are an American citizen. I will also send a note along with it to explain that I am only a 2 year conditional greencard holder.

Yes, there is a place on the form that asks if you are an American citizen. I will also send a note along with it to explain that I am only a 2 year conditional greencard holder.

No need to write any notes to explain anything. Just mark "NO" where it asks whether you are a US citizen and send the form back. That will take care of it.

IT's all automated not related to the uscis so they don't know your immigration status, as others said, just check NO and you are home free.
