Gun Homicide Rate Down 49% Since 1993 Peak; Public Unaware

Gun violence is down because there are more guns. DUHHH.

There are more guns so, superficially, you could make that argument, but it is wrong. It would be like saying "hospitals cause death" though.

Gun violence is down because more people are permitted to be armed. In 1986 5 states allowed concealed carry. In 2013 the number is 50. Chicago has seen a 31% reduction in homicides since finally being forced to implement concealed carry, and they have barely begun.

We do not know if there are more guns being carried by people or not, but we do know that more people are allowed to carry firearms concealed.

Vermont allows anyone to carry concealed handguns without a license or permit and always has. Vermont has very low crime. I do not know if there are more guns in Vermont than in, say, Texas. I do not know if there is a higher percentage of the population actually carrying guns in Vermont than in Texas. There is no way to know. Is the crime rate here lower than Texas because there are "more guns"? NO. The crime rate is lower because in Vermont 100% of the popualtion are allowed to carry concealed weapons while in Texas only about 5% of the population are allowed to carry guns. It is not necessary to actually shoot all the criminals...we shoot very few criminals in Vermont...it is merely necessary to allow people the ability to effectively defend themselves.

Each state that has implemented concealed carry since 1986 has experienced a reduction in crime and violence. The reductions have been greatest among states that have the least restrictions. This is not an experiment, this is not a debate, it is simply fact proven in 45 states for nearly 30 years and reflected in decreasing crime across the country.

Thousands of people are alive today, whether they carried a gun or not, because they were allowed to if they wanted.

It might have to do with the fact that he makes a simple statement, and then one or two of the same people say a different statement and claim that's what he meant all along. Other people are able to read the original statement for what it was.

I get the feeling you are disappointed that there has been a drastic reduction in the homicide rate. Why?

I read this and thought..."Good news!" Less young black men being murdered, less women being killed. Is it wrong to celebrate a nearly 50% reduction in homicides?

But the good news is that Chris Matthews was finally right when he said the reason the government cannot oppress our 2nd amendment rights is because we keep saying the same thing over and over, never change our minds and never change the subject.
