Contrary to popular belief, Walmart is actually a big supporter of the ACA (AKA Obamacare) ACA will create far more jobs at Walmart and give employees more free time to be with their families.

Their hiring practices are merely a reflection of good management and having more flexibility in staffing. Read it here if you don't believe me. As 2014 approaches I think we will see a lot more of this flexibility being applied by a lot of companies. We can call it "just In time" staffing, Kind of like "just in time" merchandising which is widely accepted as good practice.

By using this innovative practice they will be able to offer lower prices than their competitors. Of course, Americans, who are always worried about someone else and never themselves, may just abandon Walmart in droves and go to their competitiors who charge higher prices. I'll bet those stupid guys that built the world's largest retailer never even thought of that.

In Vermont, we are armed and unaffected by this. We have a state single payor plan...doesn't your state? Or were you waiting for Obama to "save you"? We will be exempt from Obamacare. I will get my coverage for 11% of my income...half paid by my employer. This is capped at a lower rate for people under certain income levels.

As demands increase across the nation for more and more benefits over the past few years, we saw an increase in "outsourcing" of many jobs. Janitors, maintenance workers, cafeteria staff, even clerical staff were outsourced by big companies to avoid giving them the benefits the big company agreed to give. This created many new companies...Weststaff, Service Master, Sodexo, etc. Illegal aliens are used by other companies to avoid the payroll and benefit obligations imposed by federal law and increase profits.

Because Obamacare is so poorly crafted...crafted to meet demands of a few politicians instead of being to provide healthcare...there are so many loopholes that every possible company will take advantage of that.

Low information types will blame Walmart. Intelligent people will see it was the Federal Government that created a piece of garbage that anyone and everyone will attempt to avoid.

Dems will blame Walmart. Smart people will say "I told you so"

Incidentally, ONLY Democrats voted for this.

From the link:

Will fewer full-time employees leave stores understaffed and lead to the loss of more customers? Cutting the hours of the workforce often leads to poorly run stores, and Wal-Mart has taken heat in the past for being unable to keep products stocked on the shelves.

I say Walmart ought to keep going down the path of going cheap on labor. After all, they will get what they pay for. While Walmart is trying to save by paying staff peanuts, the dividends it is already reaping from that move are unkept stores and unstocked shelves. Customers are already voting with the feet. Q1/13 was already a dud for the company's same store sales posting a nearly 1.5% decline year over year with customer visits declining even more at nearly 2%. They ought to keep that up for a few years. It would be good for the country and good for the economy if Walmart were to cut itself down in size that way.

We purchase most of our fruits, vegetables and general groceries from ALDI, who incidentally pays their hourly employees at a higher starting rate than Wally World and offers its much better motivated employees good quality health insurance. The funny thing is groceries at Aldi tend to be both less expensive and better quality than those on sale at our local Wally World and when I shop at Aldi I am always able to be in and out in less twenty minutes.

What I can't get at Aldi my local Costco has everything else we need. Costco much like Aldi offers quality products for less than Wallyworld and is able to pay its workers more while offering good quality healthinsurance.

Even if Walmart really was cheaper than Aldi or Costco I still would not shop there because I much better things to do with my time than standing behind idiots who think the world revolves round them and can't understand why walmart employees don't have the time to drop everything they're doing and help idiot customers who really seem to believe lines are optional!
