Hello, my name is Tonya or T. and I just found this site today. My b/f, John and I have just decided to start this process of moving him to the US from the UK so we can get married. We have many obstacles to overcome before we can even start this process, one of which is for him to come to visit me. We are hoping it will be in the next 6-8 months, but time will tell. I'm so happy to find this site as I have done so much research on this subject, but to have real life stories to read has already been so helpful. I look forward to any advice anyone can lend. I know we are in for a long road ahead of us, but we both know in our hearts that it is so worth the wait.

i would recommend getting started on all of the paperwork before he even comes here, and finishing it so that all you have to do once you've met is file it (and you can file it while he's still here, once you've gotten boarding passes, pictures, receipts, etc). It can be intimidating to get through the paperwork--not that it's hard, it's really not if you read through everything carefully, but it's intimidating because it's so important to you. This is something I wish i had done before my fiance came to see me for the first time this past December, because once he got here paperwork was the last thing i wanted to do (knowing he was only here for 3 months), and once he left i was pretty down--also there are things you can have him bring or have him do while he's here to make sure everything is together before he leaves you (passport photo, any documents from his end you might end up needing, signatures, etc.). Just a suggestion. I wish someone had urged me to do this before he came. We'd be halfway through the process by now, and not filing our paperwork. :/ 'cause after you meet in person, the waiting becomes infinitely harder.

Best of luck to you.

Thank you so much for your input! smile.png I was actually thinking along the same lines. Besides, it will give me something to do while i'm waiting! lol I will definitely get started on getting all the documents needed as I know those can take time to accumulate. We don't want to wait any longer that we have to. I hope your process goes quickly! Thank you! :)

  • 6 months later...

Just an update...John left yesterday after being here for 3 months. It was heart-wrenching watching him walk away. We are more determined than ever to get this process started as soon as we can. Have to wait for his divorce to finalize unfortunately. But we are working on getting everything in place and all the paperwork done. We want to be able to send it in a soon as he has the divorce decree. I'll be on here more now that we are at this point. This site is great! Thank you!
