I decided not to take any "for credit" classes until I qualified for in-state tuition, and in the meantime took a couple of adult ed. (cheap!) classes to put something on my resume.

It's hard to find time for eveything when you're only working one job and taking evening classes.

Good luck! :star:

Not that this is the easiest thing in the world to do, but maybe start looking for a job that has some sort of educational credit system.

As a teacher, I am required to get my Masters sometime in the next 4 1/2 years. All schools that I know of have some kind of reimbursement program, the 1 I am working at will pay for 1 class a year, not enough, but better then nothing!

Here in Georgia one must be a resident for a year to receive the GA student rate, otherwise you are billed as an International Student...four times the rate for a state resident. So, it looks like it will be a while til Joel could go to school, in the event he chooses to.

I'd just like to finish my bachelor's degree before I'm 90! :star:

It really depends on the type of financial aid. Need-based aid is hard to get, because you really have to be poor to qualify (at least here in CA). However, there are so many programs - government and non-government, etc., if you do a little research and just apply for as many as you can, you sure will get something. American citizens and LPRs get these loans without any problems (but you gotta think about how you're going to pay back...).

I personally think that it's better to apply for merit-based scholarships, because you don't have to pay back (but they are even harder to get). Of course, the best way to pay for your education is through tuition reimbursement programs at work, but for many people who just came here it is next to impossible (after all, we need education to get a good job, right?).

Good luck to you!
