filing I-485

i was wondering if we can file the I-485 under the married name whereas the passport and K1 visa would be in the unmarried name...would that be okay??

Noone cares for the K1 anymore once you are married. It kinda "expires" after marriage. You can file your I485 if you want your/your spouse's name in the new last name and not the maiden name anymore. I filed my paperwork only with my new last name and travelled with my passport where it states my maiden name. It was no problem at all. all you need is the Advance Parole (or greencard) and maybe your marriage licence to proof the name change. So, to make a long answer short...yes, you can file AOS with the new name and travel with the old name (make sure tickets are issued in the maiden name though).
