This is a question to pinay or to those US Citizen who married a filipina (with fiance visa).

how did you get married, civil wedding or traditional wedding (church)?? i just need some inputs because I am very stressed out. my future hubby's family (USC) wants to have a church wedding (a grand one) but I only want a civil or blessing ceremony as I dont want to get wed in the church without my parents.

We had a Christian wedding. After Jena got here we met a nice older Filipino couple and quickly became friends with them. The were so generous helping us with the wedding and even gave Jena away, standing in for her parents. We also included the coins, cord, and veil in the ceremony.

It was a small wedding of about 30-40 people.

We haven't delt with the Catholic thing yet. We're both Catholic but I'm divorced.

We also did the the Bed And Breakfast wedding with my family and friends. My wife had an aunt and uncle in USA that was able to make it and we also did Skype for Mother and Sister back in Philippines. One thing you may inform family in philippines is that they may also get in pictures. We held the laptop up and had pictures with mom and sister. Because of the time difference they had just got up to watch,,, we now get a good laugh as we are in very formal wedding dress while they were in PJ's, and hair not fixed,,,

We are now planning wedding in Philippines in 2015 for her family, I will also invite my family to join there.

As stated by others, make sure you and your husband are happy with what ever ceremony/event you have,,, There are so many ways and all anyone else can do is give suggestions.

This is also a big issue for us, not because of family intervention, but because of lack of family. I only have my 2 teenagers who live in my city. My sister will come; she is the only other family who can or would attend. So my idea was a small ceremony probably in our home with those few family members and a few friends.

Janet agrees but I always wonder since I know she dreams of the big church wedding. I am not Catholic, so besides the time obstacle, that's a big obstacle. I want her to be happy but not try to go wild in the 90 days we have to get married (and we don't want to wait very long).

And of course like many others, I want to return to PI next year for a wedding or big party for her family.

I am open to suggestions.

I do like the Skype suggestion to try to involve friends and family back home. Also the B&B idea might be nicer than the home. I just don't want to stress everyone out (namely me) in a short period of time.
