We need Crumpet in Colorado.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

You are only allowed to do this if you open a Boston branch too! I love crumpets.

All this talk about crumpets and I've never had one. So I just bought some at Kroger. They sorta look like American pancakes, not flipped to the second side. So do you toast them in the toaster? What's your favorite way to eat them?

After five and a half years the only thing I really miss are instant gravy granules.

America seems to love fast food and convenience food, yet they are averse to instant gravy. Probably because hardly anyone owns a kettle. And if you do own a kettle it takes 15 minutes to boil. rolleyes.gif

Drowning in butter and nothing else.

The Kroger ones probably aren't the same as British ones...I've yet to find a comparable one in the US.

Ive tried the crumpets they have at Wegmans and they just aren't the same, i think it may be something to do with America doesn't seem to have suet! which i believe is an ingredient in crumpets ?

Crumpets should be toasted (in the toaster) and smothered in chunks of Lurpack slightly salted butter, lol

One thing I'll never forget tasting for the first time in the US is Biscuits! like the ones you get at Bob Evans or KFC, kinda like our scones but lighter and salted. It always amazes me how something can be so popular in one country yet has never been heard of in a another, biscuits and buttermilk pancakes are two examples.

Oh and i know i'm gonna miss black pudding, now that's an opening for a fun discussion! lol

How have you not be *showered* in crumpets (and other British treats) in return for all your help here? If I thought they'd last in the mail, I'd send some!

I toast them in the oven under the grill. They can be toasted in a regular toaster, but I find most toasters end up burning them on the outside before the middles are heated through enough. Then as much butter on top as possible, and maybe then nice strawberry jam (jelly).

Yep toast them in the toaster and then spread loads of butter on (they are def not a diet food, haha) Best served on a rainy day when you are nice and warm indoors :)
