Hi all! I am wondering if you can help me clear up some of my confusion. As you can tell by my sig, I received my NOA from the CSC on Oct 30. saying that my I-129F petition has been approved and sent to the NVC.

I was under the impression that the NVC does the background check (FBI Name Check) on me. Is this true? If so, what processing does the CIS/CSC do? Should I take the fact that CIS got done with my petition in only 2 months as a good sign that the NVC will be quick about processing my petition?

I am a very private person and don't like the idea of anyone digging into my personal history and will be VERY glad when it is done.

Do you think the background check is the only thing that has to be done? If that were the case then why did we send in all that supporting evidence?

YMMV

By the time this process is really and truly over, the USCIS and the gov't will know a LOT about you. Better get used to it too. I don't imagine many on here like the gov't digging into their lives.

Funny, my life is so uneventful that I don't even realize the government is digging into it. :P I just don't care and just hope they'll realize super fast how dull my life in the sense that matters to them. :P

I would email or call the NVC, my file was forwarded to the embassy in Bangkok the day after they got it. I'm not sure what kind of checking they do, but mine did not take long at all.

As YuAndDan stated, background/security checks are done at all stages. At USCIS this can include checks not only on the beneficiary, but also the petitioner and anyone connected to the case including a lawyer. At NVC and consulate stage (these stages are intertwined), the focus is on the beneficiary. How long it takes is dependant on any name hits, information contained in the application form, country of the beneficiary including any political unrest etc etc. There was a post (now gone) in the immigration news forum, that those from China were being targeted for closer scrutiny. The post was from a guy that was once an NVC officer that supposedly had inside information. This was a little while back and may not apply now.

The NVC is run by the State Department. Their primary job is to approve/disapprove the issuance of a visa to people wishing to come to America. At this point, the State Department is only interested in your fiancee. When the file is shipped to the embassy of your fiancee's country then they will make a determination if a visa should be issued and whether you have sufficient income/resources to support a new family. That's the reason for the income verification by the embassy.

If you were not a qualified person prior to the NOA2, you would have found out sooner. Anyway, if the government was really interested in you, what could you do to stop them from snooping?
