Hello all, I have been away for a while working on my relationship, etc, . . . I am going back to JA in August. My questions is my fiance is telling me that his passport has expired and that he will not be able to go to the embassy without this document first being renewed. Is this true? We are working with the embassy to secure another (they have been patience) interview date. Please advise and thank you for listening . . .

True.

One of the requirement is that the passport is atleast 6months valid. Mine is expiring too so I called us embassy manila and I was told that I have to renew it first as the passport ID number changes every renewal, and they need the latest. To be able to have a successful appointment for interview, they will be needing the passport number, date of expiry....etc. Not sure about your country, but that is how it is in philippines.

So I have to wait till my passport is renewed before I can finally set up an interview appointment.

the visa must be valid for at least 6 months after the date of visa approval. My husband's was expiring 8 months after the interview so he had it renewed just in case. It was a good thing he did as he was put into AP for 10 weeks. Plus it;s a good idea to have it renewed anyway, having a foreign passport renewed in the US is an ordeal.

Did you re-file another K1 application? Just asking because normally if you already had an interview (and whatever the outcome), the embassy sends back the file to USCIS and the person has to re-apply for another visa.
