An 11-year-old boy's rendition of the national anthem at Game 3 of the NBA finals brought the usual appreciative applause Tuesday, but outside AT&T Center in San Antonio, his performance brought a darker reaction from some posters on social media -- and eventually an online backlash against their racist comments.

I remember watching this kid on America's Got Talent (one of my many reality tv guilty pleasures) ... he's adorable and talented. Eff the haters.

The blog highlighted 28 tweets from NBA fans who came off as offended and ashamed that the Spurs would allow the boy, who happened to have been born and raised in San Antonio, to sing the nation's anthem.

However, Public Shaming must have suspected what would happen once the racist tweets were posted because most of the Twitter handles have been deactivated or the tweet has been removed. The blog posted screen shots of the tweets so it could continue to display the public microbloggers' rants.

If you're going to be a racist a**hole, at least have the guts to stand behind it. What cowards.

I just watched the kids performance from the game, he's got a hell of a voice. Good for him.

This is my favorite:

-- "How you singing the national anthem looking like an illegal immigrant" from Andre Lacey, proud father and firefighter from Augusta, Georgia.

It is clear this person has trouble understanding what he is trying to say. If one ever needed to close caption the exchange between the pot and the kettle.

Yeah but he's a father and firefighter so what he says has more weight.

You left out "proud", he's a "proud father".

I bet the father of this boy is very proud, he has every right to be.

To direct this kind of hate and ignorance at a CHILD is really disturbing.

What I find disturbing is that this alleged proud father, who speaks like an illegal immigrant, should find himself in a position to judge a child who he believes is an illegal immigrant.

The British call this 'pull up the ladder Jack', a nautical metaphor....

F the racist haterz.

Why shouldn't we have Mexican-Americans perform the national anthem at our games ? About 65% of our population is Mexican-American.

Mariachi Campanas de America did the anthem 2 weeks ago during round 3 against the Grizzlies... I don't have it in a YouTube format, but here is their version from a few years back - hear the crowd go wild starting around :38 seconds:

Oh and

I believe the kid is an American. He was singing an ode to the flag of his country. It is as simple as that!

Well... duh.

The (rhetorical) question was to the haterz: "why shouldn't he" etc etc
