A typo I'm sure. On a side note, I'm planning a beach vaca in Nebraska this year. Should be fun

Careful GandD, the tides in Nebraska are very rough this time of year.

Are you planning on putting the beach that you will be required to bring along into your check-in bags or will it fit into the carry-on?

The Nebraska oceanfront is amazing.

That's what I hear. Not quite as nice as the Ankara beaches, though.

Well no, nothing is as nice as the Ankara beaches. That's why Gary vacations at the Ankara waterfront, nothing but best for him and Alla. I hear they have a flat there.

A flat on the Ankara beach? Man, that's prime property because I hear that beachfront flats in Ankara are not that easy to come by. A real rarity.

Kinda like Nebraska oceanfront property - not that easy to get a hold of, really.

This is how I role. If the tides get rough, I shoot 'em

Yeah, you really gotta know someone in the community. They don't let many outsiders into their beach community.

Your words.

How does comparing Obama to Soviet political oppression indicate I hate Ukraine?

Some very brief history

The Soviet Union ended 22 years ago. Ukraine was a Republic of the Soviet Union and has been an independent country since Aug 24, 1991.

Noting that Obama operates in the same way as Soviet political leaders from 22 years ago (actually more like 52 years ago) is not a reflection of my feelings toward a country...Ukraine OR the USA

If you can produce something I said that indicates a "serious hate" for the country of Ukraine...or even the USSR for that matter...or even the USA, please do so.

I happen to live most of the year in the most beautiful place in the great country of the United States (I may have noted that before, have I ever told you how great Vermont is?) and part of the year in the fascinating country of Ukraine. Working here was the greatest adventure of my life! My opinions of the political leaders in either country have nothing to do with my feelings about the country. If you cannot debate a topic without personal attacks I would thank you not to state that I "have a serious hate on" for my wife's country. I happen to love Ukraine and the people who live here and we visit whenever we can.

"Rodina" is the Russian word for "country" and is often associated with the sentimental term "motherland" which was frequently used as justification for oppression of rights by the Soviet political leaders.

And I can visit beaches in Turkey via the airport in Ankara just as I can visit beaches in Florida by flying into Orlando.

Perhaps I have confused the low information types WAY too much. But at least I gave them something to discuss.

That's odd. How can you love a country where there are so few firearms? Ukraine has 6.6 firearms per 100,000. That puts Ukraine at place 84 in the world. Canada, a place you "risk to go" because they have so few firearms there, has a gun ownership rate five times that of the Ukraine. It's unsafe there and you have to take a risk to go there because they don't have enough guns yet Ukraine where they have far fewer guns is a place you love and would retire to.

Try and keep your stories straight.

I don't hate Canada and yes they have lots of guns in Canada. Kinda rules out a lack of guns being the reason for your usual claim of Canada's low crime rate being a lack of guns. Canada has a lower crime rate than Ukraine...by far and 5 times the guns.

Thank you for pointing out what I always say.

Again a country's crime rate has nothing to do with whether I love or hate a country. A very distinct statement was made..."Gary has a serious hate on for Ukraine" No such thing can be taken from anything I ever said. But no doubt one can create this "serious hate" by extrapolating (sorry big word, google it) something that doesn't exist and in the process prove that guns reduce crime. Please carry on.

And it really does not matter to me how many other people own guns...I am pro-choice remember...as long as I am one of them that does. I do not take any risk going to Ukraine.

Of course, now that you've called him out on this, he will never speak of it again.

Sorry to disappoint you.

Canada has lower crime than Ukraine because they have 5 times as many guns.

Nothing in Ukrainian gun owning habits/laws has anything to do with whether I "hate" a country. In fact, I do not "hate" any country.

Your words.

So I hate Ukraine because I disagree with the political policies of politicians of a different country which no longer exists?

I get it now.

Gary Likes Vermont

Vermont has more guns and less crime than Canada

Canada has more guns and less crime than Ukraine

Gary hates Ukraine

Brilliant. +1 for you.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_of_guns_per_capita_by_country

And your figures are wrong. (Who'd guess that?) Ukraine has 6.6 firearms per 100 residents, not 100,000 so it is actually 1000 times better and more safe than you said. I am so surprised. Probably a typo. Unless you think there are only 68 guns per 100,000 people in the USA. laughing.gif

You know what I LOVE about Ukraine, though? You can buy a Makarov (that's a type of pistol with a magazine...google it) from a policeman in Donetsk for $200.

How much would it cost to buy a pistol from a policeman in Montreal?
