Hello all.

Just need some clarification on what happens if I cancel the visa process for my wife. She is still in Europe and her papers are near the final stages at the NVC. I'm pretty sure the next step is to be sent ton the embassy in Romania.

Well, things are changing. I've decided not to reenlist in the military and move to Europe to live with her. This has been a year in planning, and the final decision was made. Since she will not end up coming here, Im sure she will not get the visa we were working on. We don't mind that. What we want to make sure is that this wont affect her obtaining a visa in the future in an adverse way. We plan to visit here, so a tourist visa would suffice in the future. Will the non completion of oue current process affect that in the future?

Just something we want to make sure of. If it does we wont mind either way. The visa is just for us to be together...

If i where you? just continue the process.. it wont hurt you at all.. just get the VISA because that visa is good for 10 years if you are married more than 2 years..

so that anytime she can come in and out here in the USA.. tourist visa is 50-50 .. at least this visa for your wife is no denial!! just get the visa on hand.. let her visit here in the USA

then back to her home country and apply for A Re-entry permit is good for 2 years. before she will left here in USA.. this is only me idea...

I do not agree with the above...I consider that advise to cross the line of visa fraud. Do not continue if you do not plan on living in the US. They are for people that want to move and live in the US. You will be asked things like...Where will you live in the US and show proof. DO NOT LIE!

You can cancel with no effects on the future. The reason for withdraw is that your plans have changed and will not be residing in the US for the foreseeable future.

Now the other choice is to contact them and see how long you can put it on hold to see if things change over the next year or so.

Finished!

It won't have any major effect, but any future visa application they will ask what happened with the previous one. That being said, if he is still maintaining an address in the U.S. he could continue the visa process. If it is at the NVC stage it is probably 4-6 months from being issued (give or take a month or two) and would be good for 6 months. She could then travel to the U.S. and have her Green Card within a month, which would allow her to come and go from the U.S. freely. If the plan is to try living in Europe she could file a re-entry permit to live in Europe, which would give her until her conditional card expires, or two years (whichever comes first) to either return to the U.S. for permanent residence or abandon it and live forever in Europe.
