I received my employment authorization card so I can work while my Adjustment Of Status application is still underway, but my I-94 has expired, so as far as I can tell I can't apply for a social security number. What are my options here? Is the I-94 vital for getting an SSN? Can I not apply for a job without one?

show up with an EAD and passport - apply for SSN at SSA office with SS5 form.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

EAD will get you a SSN.

Also you can apply and accept for jobs w/o an SSN, however, you will not get paid w/o one.

Not completely true, most companies would allow person to start working and they expect that one would receive a SSN in few weeks.

They would than go ahead and update the SSN number for the person.

Yes that's correct but I assumed that much was common sense.

Take your EAD to the SS Office with all your documents, including the I-94 just in case. The EAD is the evidence they need to issue you with a SSN.

You can start looking for a job immediately if you will. Your employment authorization affords you that privilege.

Good luck!

It was in regard to your earlier post about about getting paid, yes one would get paid without ssn companies normally will adjust it afterwards.

Really? That hasn't been my experience. A good number of my friends were hired on TN visas and didn't have SSNs when they started work and they've always been told they won't get paid until they do. I guess it varies by company.
