Suggestions for airlines to Mexico

I am planning our next trip which will be to cancun mexico. I have looked at all the major airlines, but every last flight to cancun has a stop in the United States save one...Air France which has a flight from Paris to Mexico City. However, everyone of their flights out of cancun goes through Atlanta or Miami...not one direct out of Mexico City back to Paris. I know Cancun is becoming a more popular tourist destination for Russians, so how do Russians and Ukraines get around the stop landing in the US?

It depends on where you are based and your flexibility and budget. There are quite a few airlines which fly to Cancun directly from Europe. It is a popular destination among German people so Lufthansa has flights from Frankfurt via Mexico City, airberlin too. Also Condor has flights from Kiev via Frankfurt to Cancun. Check out KLM from Kiev/Amsterdam as I am sure they have flights that don't transfer in the US. I would look for direct flights from Spain too, maybe on Pullmantur Air from Madrid.

My sister -in -law is from Romania and she just met us in Cancun this past week. Same issue - needed a flight that didn't require a transit visa. She had an air france flight from Paris (started in bucharest) to mexico city to cancun. My husband took this same route 2 years to meet up with me when he couldn't get a tourist visa

AS of last week it was AF438 from paris and AF8104 (operated by aeromexico)

she had the same return flight but she left on a friday - don't know if that makes a difference

I know u were only asking about from Russia but just a heads up - we flew frontier and had the awful experience of being denied boarding on our flight out of mexico with my hubby's AP/combo card . Would not recommend frontier from the states!

I would let her figure that part out. She's a big girl, right?
