Hey lank I thought of you today I pray you get your approval soon. I tried applying for food stamps an the rep. told me myself an my son dont qualify because I dont have the prima facie for 5 years which made absolutely no sense I said to her after 5years I would hope I would have my GC by then!

Only my daughter qualifies because she is a USC. *sigh*

Thank you for your kind words! Very soon you are going to become a permanent resident and going to enjoy the freedom!

thank you citragirl. I got the same letter from the social security office... at first they told me i could bring a letter this is what the lady said :

To obtain a Social Security Number for a non-work purpose, you must provide:

  • evidence of age, identity, and current alien status; and
  • a letter from the appropriate government entity that explains the need for the SSN.

The letter or form letter from the government entity to document a valid non-work reason must meet all these criteria:

  • must be dated and on letterhead stationery;
  • must specifically identify you, the non-work reason an SSN is required, the relevant statute or regulations requiring the SSN as a condition to receive the benefit or service, and the name and telephone number of an official to contact so that the information provided may be verified;
  • must state that the you meet all the requirements to receive the benefit or service, except for an SSN; and
  • must have the wet signature of the authorized official for the government entity.

but then i went back and she told me that i couldnt get it that i had to go through immigration

Czzr somebody posted I think in vawapart3 about the steps to request a social security number
I remember something about obtaining a letter but I don't remember if it had to be from the school or financial aid office... I don't have a computer right now but I shall look for it and verify and repost or try to find info in the ss web site. I am sure the people at the office won't tell us, I got a letter from them too that I cannot receive a ss# until my application gets approved. But I'll look for that post I told you about.

Hello everyone.

My prima facie is about to expire and nothing from Vermont. Its been a long silence . I sent them a certified letter requesting change of address and I also notarize it that was a month ago and have not received any response from them. I also applied for my new prima facie along with a letter that SAndra was kind to help me to write it, in the letter I ask them to look at my case because I been waiting for almost 20 months , that was 2 weeks ago and still nothing. I sent a e-request about my case been over the posted processing time at USCIS website that was 2 months ago and still no answer. What you guys think is happening? maybe my case got lost in the office?

I don't know what else to do other that pray and ask God to have merci.....

Panama Guy,

That's just ridiculous. Have you filed through an attorney. If yes, I think they can call USCIS on your behalf and talk to USCIS agent about your case. I know what you going through, I got approved in 10 months and that too feels like so much stress. 20 months is just so disappointing. You are in my thoughts, I hope you hear good news from USCIS soon.
