MeEe, during my research on divorce, I found out that you can file from divorce from any state in which you have met the residency requirements (usually, 6 months). But it is possible that some states are different and you can only file for divorce in the same state where you got married. I'm not sure about this, but I would be surprised if you can't file from any state in the US.

anajnic, no problem. :-) We are all in a similar situation, and I hope things get resolved in a positive way for all of us here, women and men, who have genuinely experienced the horror of being married to an abusive person. I personally don't have any money for lawyers, so I have had to do a lot of reading on these questions. I try to share information that I have found with people here, because I know how hard it is. The more information we have, the better informed we are. That's why sandranj has been so great to us too - she has given us a lot of information and made things easier in this difficult process.

I can't afford to file for divorce and therefore hasn't. I really don't have the mental strength too because I don't want to see him at alllll.

Thanks- anajnic, my lawyer is messed up and that's an understatement,

Talking about divorce, I'm mentally incapable of handling a divorce, and the amount of hatred I have for my abusive ex, I don't even want to set my eyes on him let alone stay in the same room(court) with him. So I think its safe to not rush into it to avoid more emotional damages. Also the financial aspect of it is a setback for now. But I hope to start mine soon after I've worked for a while and saved some money cos I need to disentangle myself from him completely. Goodluck everyone

Hi guys, just wanted to share some info with you on the subject of divorce. U can try to do an uncontested divorce. Your attorney or paralegal would run an ad in the papers for a few weeks and then submit the papers to the court. Aftr that you are given a notice to appear in court to have the divorce finalised. U dnt have to kno where he/she is to file. Just pray and hope that he/she soesnt see the ad to respond. If all goes well, u will be legally free and not have to see ur abuser. That's the route i took and it worked for me. Took a little time but it was well worth it.

Remember I shared that I did not have my medicals because of affordability and also i was married before and did not have the original Divorce decree (its from another country). Well HUNNIBOOBOOS!!!! I had a friend in that country and one night through the nudging of the holy spirit i texted her (that was a few days ago).Today I'm happy to say she mailed off my original divorce decree and my brother paid for my medicals. God is good. I am telling you I was sooooo stressed thinking about where i was gonna get the money and so forth.Just had to share this.

Samusbbz did they ask more evidence regarding bona fide marriage or extreme cruelty?copy and paste your affidavit and send me through pm,and I will tell you what is wrong with your affidAvit. Tell me what proof you submitted.

Both, they are also asking whether we actually lived together since in his arrest reports when he was arrested for assaulting other people he lied about where he lived so they are questioning why it says he lives in one place on his police reports yet he has bills arriving where I live. Also I have not been able to send you my affidavit yet because despite the fact my lawyer said he would he has not yet emailed me any of my documents since Wednesday. sleep.png
