The information on VJ for the Rio de Janeiro consulate is not updated. If you look at the list of doctors, for example, half of them don't work for the embassy anymore. Go to the embassy website, they have the order for the documents on this link: http://portuguese.brazil.usembassy.gov/pt/order2.html

The citibank fee isn't applicable anymore. You pay at the consulate, in cash. I heard it's cheaper to do in dollar but my fiance did it in reais just fine. We did not do the FS 257 (his interview was last week). I;ll double check with fiance about the "part one only" question. I thought that was really confusing too!

We went to our interview on Tuesday and brought both parts of DS-230 with us. They only wanted Part I, and handed part II back to me.

I would take a complete copy of my submitted file and other original and relevant documents to a K-1 interview. As you got your other answers already and or see Brazil k-1 members and what they did..

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

Trillian is right. The information on VJ is outdated.

Follow the instructions on the American Embassy in Brazil's website.

http://brazil.usembassy.gov/interview/forms-for-fiancee-visas.html

So this is the official list:

  • Two frontal photograph showing both ears (5 X 5cm or 5 X 7cm);
  • Valid passport (at least eight months validity remaining);
  • Visa fee paid at the Consulate on the day of the interview.
  • Application for Immigrant Visa‐form DS 230‐I (duly completed and signed);
  • Two DS‐156 Forms (electronically filled out with bar code and signed);
  • DS‐157 Form (for those over 16yrs);
  • Sworn statement (for fiancées only);
  • Birth Certificate (even if previously married);
  • Termination of previous marriages (if applicable) with a simple copy;
  • Police Certificate(s) - In Brazil you need two: from the Federal Police and the State Police (Secretaria de Segurança Pública)with a simple copy;
  • Financial Support - E.g.: Affidavit of Support (I‐134 Form) including supporting documents. (see form instructions for attachments);
  • Sealed envelope of Medical Examination Report;
  • Complete Court Records, judicial situation, including processes in Brazil and in the U.S. (if applicable) with a simple copy;
  • USCIS/DHS processes/records (e.g. deportation proceedings, voluntarily removal, change of visa category processes, petitions or hearings before immigration judges, asylum papers, etc.) with a simple copy.

And this is the order of the documents for the interview

http://portuguese.brazil.usembassy.gov/pt/order2.html (portuguese)

http://brazil.usembassy.gov/interview/forms-for-fiancee-visas/order-of-documents-for-the-interview---fiancee.html (english)

I also advise you to read this pdf document with instructions for the interview.

It has all the information you will need for your interview

http://photos.state.gov/libraries/brazil/571295/pdfs/Inst_amp_Interv-letter-Fiancee-Eng-Sept12.pdf (english)

http://photos.state.gov/libraries/brazil/571295/pdfs/Instr_amp_Carta-Entrev-Noiva-Port-Sept12.pdf (portuguese)

About your other questions:

1- Yes I am sure that you will only need the part 1 of the DS-230. You can bring the other part, but they will give it right back to you. You can bring it for peace of mind though O=}

2- The Fiancé visa fee is being paid at the Consulate the day of the interview. This information availiable here:

http://brazil.usembassy.gov/immigrant-visas/schedule-of-fees.html (english)

http://portuguese.brazil.usembassy.gov/pt/fees2.html (portuguese).

3- No, you don't need this FS-257a form.

Hope it helps.

Good luck!!
