I guess anything is possible. It's possible I could be an Astronaut in 5 years. Highly unlikely though.

What's the difference between this and the guys that shoot up a non minority neighborhood? A lot of those mass shootings are done with legally owned hand guns.

Bad example. Japan happens to have banned just about all firearm ownership. Japan also has close to no gun violence. When they counted 22 gun deaths in 2007 (yes, that was the annual number across all of Japan), there was national outrage. When we have 26 gun deaths in a single shooting - 20 of those little children to boot - we do absolutely nothing. That is how sick a society we are.

Exactly. It aint the guns, it's society.

Well first of all it's 5 different incidents in a short period of time more than likely committed by 5 different individuals or groups.

Kids shoot friends and themselves because guns are around and not in a controlled environment. Which is more realistic, making a law to eliminate the gun from environment or make a law to force people to be more responsible with their gun?

I'd say it would be more realistic to force people to be more responsible with guns via new legislation. Not sure how effective it would be.

It's tough to try and eliminate something that is already so pervasive in society. Not saying impossible. Plus you have the whole 2nd amendment issue.

As in like harsher penalties for people not being responsible with their gun? What's harsher than their kid being dead? In my mind, if they're not wary of this possible eventuality, any legal penalty will be completely ignored.

Problem is we are living in a society that loves guns. For our side, it's poverty, no education, and a love of all things ignorant(yes, rappers and entertainers are adding to this). For the other side, it's violent movies, video games, and a mentality that having a gun and killing people is as American as Apple pie.

Maybe so. A certain percentage of society will ignore laws. People still don't wear their seatbelt. People still kill their ol lady when they catch them shagging their best friend.

When a child hurts or kills itself or another with a firearm it had access to in the home, then parents ought to be held to account as if they pulled that trigger themselves. And obviously, such parents would forthwith be ineligible to ever own a firearm again. Period. You make a few of these cases and I think you'll see firearms being stored more secure in the home.

And that's my point really. It has more to do with society in this country than it does the laws. I heard a quote one time. Something about "You can't legislate morality." Seems pretty spot on. After I click "Add Reply" here, I'm going to look up who said that. I have a feeling I'm going to regret posting it.

Bull$hit. That's a problem when the legal system is using laws the way they were not intended.

So you think that the right to own guns should continue to come without any responsibilities whatsoever?

Who said that? I didn't. I was responding to this statement you made:

When a child hurts or kills itself or another with a firearm it had access to in the home, then parents ought to be held to account as if they pulled that trigger themselves.

Sorry I don't agree with that.
