Brazil vs. Brasil

  1. 1. When you write IN ENGLISH, how do you spell the name of the country?

    • "Brasil," since that's how it is in Portuguese
      13
    • "Brazil," because I don't say "Italia" or "España" when I'm speaking English either

According to CIA-The World Factbook Colombia is, in English, spelled with an O instead of an U.

Duh. You must think I'm an idiot. ;)

Christopher Columbus was his anglicized name.

So calling the US of A columbia is right, but the guys' name in spanish is spelled with an o, therefore the country's name should be and is spelled with an o.

But that doesn't change the undeniable fact that Brazil with an S is a typo.

Well. I get what you were trying to say Mark... anglicized name should spawn anglicized country name at least for English speakers... but I still think you're an idiot.

Going by the logic of names being different in English, I suggest the following:

When addressing a person named Jesus, you must pronounce it Jee-zuz

No more Juan - call him John. Roberto is obviously Robert. Call him Bob.

Esmeralda just won't do; call her Emma.

Jalapeños are to be referred to as Hallapeenos (that seeming to be the American pronunciation.)

Tortillas must be spelled Torteeyas.

No more Tour de France - gotta be Tour of France now.

English-speaking people are no longer allowed to order Escargot at a French restaurant...they must say "Give me a plate of snails."

Likewise, you must ask for goose liver paste rather than Pate.

In case you couldn't guess, I think item/place names should be the same, assuming a common alphabet.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

When using Brasil in forms that I know to be used in US I type Brazil, but it will be rare since in spanish it's Brasil and all the stuff I do is here in PR (SSN forms, medical forms, etc etc) so I just type Brasil.

Typing Brazil in Portuguese is just lack of gray matter, but typing Brasil in English is just a typo.

Like Russia:

In English: Russia

In Portuguese: Rússia

In Spanish(I believe): Russia

In Russian: Росси́я

And because I think the Portuguese language has already enough accents in their vowels and 'ç' I won't put any accent in a.... reversed R....(???)

But if it is decided that I should write "Brasil" for now own, I will not capitalize nationalities and confortable is spelled with an N (porque M, só antes de P e B ).

Not to mention all those asian countries...
