So I am writing on behalf of my Husband and curious to know the next step to take as I have been feeling rather stir crazy lately (as I have always wanted to travel). I am a US born citizen and my husband is from Mexico and brought to the US as a child. We applied, filed and got approved for the Deferred Act so now he has a 2 year work visa, social security card and a legal drivers license. We have been married for almost four years now. So what is the next move for me to help him become a resident here? Do I have to sit and wait and hope the government changes something? Any help, info or links at all would be extremely grateful!

Yep.

Keep in mind that it's not even close to a "work visa", but it is a "temporary work permit" that permits employment for 2 years. He is still in illegal status, and it may or may not be renewed based on policy at that time.

That's strange and extremely disappointing. I was informed and read that the temporary work visa was renewable after the two year period and I just HOPED that there was a way around to working on his permanent residency seeing as they gave him something as important as a social security number and all. Well, keeping my fingers crossed then!

The work permit is currently renewable, but the entire program can be scrapped as easily as it was implemented. It's based on executive powers, not legislative. Congress has to pass legislation to make a path to residency available.

Best of luck. It's currently one of the more lively debates.
