I grasp why the report button is there, I don't grasp why you of all people feel the need to use it. I find it a bit weasely and spineless. But hey, if that's how you roll.

There's a difference between reporting for organization's sake and reporting because some one made you mad.

I happen to strongly feel that editing another individual's posts within a quote is a serious violation of TOS and bad for VJ if it becomes too common. That is what I reported Teddy for.

ETA: A moderator should have told Teddy that. Without that kind of feedback, community moderation does not work. People need to know why content was removed/edited.

I do that all the time. e.g. if someone posts 4 points, and I only want to address one point, I edit the quote to delete the other 3 points not related to my response.

Now if someone posted something about "blue balls", and I changed the original quote to "red balls," that should not be allowed. I do sometimes use the strike through or underline feature when making a point, but I always leave the original text there, although modified slightly with the strike through.

I don't consider excerpting a quote a TOS violation. Based on how prevalent it is, VJ moderation seems to agree.

Changing red balls to blue balls is the kind of editing I'm talking about.

I don't think the strikethrough should be allowed inside a quote tag. It makes it look like the original author did that when he/she did not.

Keep talking about the TOS and this thread will end up moved to site related when TBone's shift starts.

Or maybe Immigration News.

VJ politics are still politics.

Ha, good one. I gotta remember that.

Anyone recall the ex-organizer who tried to differentiate between politics and policy and moved all policy threads to OT?

His argument was, and I am paraphrasing from memory, that a law that already exists is no longer politics, it is policy. So any discussion of the exchanges under Obamacare today would have ended up in OT.

Its true. Politicians rarely talk about policy. Only things not covered by policy. huh.png

this is kind of random but I am not sure where else to ask..

one of our nephews is graduating from 6th grade this week. I wanted to get him a little something and I was thinking of just a $10 gift card for GameStop. Does that make us look like a cheapskate?..lol It isn't like he is graduating high school or college. I know his other aunts and uncles will probably give him a lot more but we aren't made of money :P

My husband did recently take him to a Dodger baseball game for his Birthday.

It's great there's a place for you to post something like this content.gif

There isn't much one can get at game stop for $10 IMO so you'd be committing them/their parents to a larger purchase. Itunes or app store might be cool for $10. I usually give my nephews cash and tell them not to tell their parents. The cash makes them feel a little older and the secret makes them feel like its a bigger deal than it is. Of course, they usually tell their parents but that was never the point.

his other aunts and uncles don't really spend a lot of time with them.. they just get them expensive gifts. I know kids like the gifts but I think they like quality time spent with them more..
