Grumble about the loss . Find other Brits in the USA to commiserate with. review the battle plans of the war of 1812 and either re-enact it with yer buddies OR find the problem with the battle plan, write up your analysis of the problem, and submit it to the Duke of Winchester.

With the defeat of Napoleon, the US lost a powerful ally. That ended the war in effect, as Britian was able to devote more attention to the problems in North America. All in all, the US came out fairly well from the deal, despite having their capital burned to the ground.

And despite starting the war

I had to put my 11 and a half year old golden retriever to sleep yesterday. I'm lost without my best friend.

Penny, I've been on vacation and just read this. So sorry for your loss. Having been a dog owner my whole life, I know it's always hard to lose a pet. They do give us some really great memories.smile.png

Thanks, Teddy.

It's been very difficult to get over. He was by my side every day since he was 8 weeks old, so the last week or so without him has been very strange and sad.

I've also been a dog owner my whole life... this is literally the first time I've not had at least one. It's not something I'm going to get used to, I don't think. Just need some time before allowing myself to bring another one into my life.

I hope you had a good vacation!

It's the same as losing a family member, and sometimes worse. A pet's love is unconditional, unlike most humans. Each dog is unique in their own way and leaves a special spot in your heart. After losing my last German Shepherd, I went about a year before getting another one. I now have "Bella", who is 6 years old and also a German Shepherd, I like the breed, very loyal.

My vacation was good, thanks. It was a working vacation. Stripped, cleaned, sanded and refininished my deck.Wasn't a lot of fun in the 95 plus degree heat, but it came out great and the beers went down easy.

Yeah, once you find the breed that suits you, it's hard to stray away from. We'll be sticking with a golden retriever for our next dog, too.

Come do our deck! It needs a lot of work and my husband hasn't got a clue where to begin. We can pay you in beer.

My wife has had two Golden's, and she wants another one.

The payment in beer is very hard to resist, but I won't lose any sleep if I don't ever refinish another deck in my lifetime. I never thought I'd be saying this, but I'm getting too old for this shyt. lol

The rant threads were, regrettably, made invisible because (as I understand) someone invaded someone else's privacy. See the "Steve&Tiff Identity" thread (read the ground rules) and come join in. Hope that you had a good vacation, si man.
