FRIDAAAAAAAAAAY.

Hubs and I are seeing Gravity this weekend! Super excited, I've heard great things about it.

You like those Sci-Fi flicks, eh? Have fun.

Wifey and I are going to our fave Chinese restaurant tomorrow night, Su Changs in Peabody MA. Everything is made fresh to order. Other than that, it's work around the house and getting ready for winter.

Oh yeah, I've got a 4 day weekend, no work til Wed! dancin5hr.gif

I thought Gravity was about astronauts, not Sci-Fi. Astronauts are real, aren't they? :)

IMDB lists it as "Drama/Sci Fi/ Thriller. It's not one of those far out sci-fi flicks like Sharknado.

Really? That's so weird...

So... is anything to do with Science that is not true "science fiction?" I thought it was reserved for far away space and time. I thought from the previews that the movie took place in the "near present."

So if I write a romcom that takes place in a chemistry lab, is it sci fi?

I'm not sure what the specifics of the movie are. Perhaps there are some things in the movie that would qualify it as a sci-fi? The definition of sci-fi can be vast depending on who defines it. I got this off Wiki.

Definitions
For more details on this topic, see Definitions of science fiction.

Science fiction is difficult to define, as it includes a wide range of subgenres and themes. Author and editor Damon Knight summed up the difficulty, saying "science fiction is what we point to when we say it",[6] a definition echoed by author Mark C. Glassy, who argues that the definition of science fiction is like the definition of pornography: you don't know what it is, but you know it when you see it.[7]Vladimir Nabokov argued that if we were rigorous with our definitions, Shakespeare's play The Tempest would have to be termed science fiction.[8]

According to science fiction writer Robert A. Heinlein, "a handy short definition of almost all science fiction might read: realistic speculation about possible future events, based solidly on adequate knowledge of the real world, past and present, and on a thorough understanding of the nature and significance of the scientific method."[9]Rod Serling's definition is "fantasy is the impossible made probable. Science fiction is the improbable made possible."[10]Lester del Rey wrote, "Even the devoted aficionado—or fan—has a hard time trying to explain what science fiction is", and that the reason for there not being a "full satisfactory definition" is that "there are no easily delineated limits to science fiction."[11]

Is Su Changs really good? Out here in suburbia I have forgotten about good Chinese food. And I haven't been to Chinatown for years. Is it safe in Peabody or should I pack?

Yes, very good. We won't go anywhere else. They have an extensive menu too. And no guns needed in Peabody!

I just don't want to go if everyone is going to think I'm a creepyass cracker. Or maybe I'll have to go to Brockton to get acclimated first? I actually was in Brockton a couple of weeks ago.

Pretty much all there is in Peabody is creepyass crackers, you'll fit in just fine. You went to Brockton and made it out alive?

It looks reasonably priced too.

Yes it is. We usually have 2 drinks each, peking raviolis and two entrees, we get out of there for about $80 every time including the tip. That's not bad, especially seeing the food is great. It's not your run of the mill chinese place. Take a look at the photo gallery. The place is really big too, has 2 floors.

It's science fiction?! No, I don't..

I want a 4 day weekend.

Clearly I didn't read the sci-fi debate posts before responding...

That's not too bad. But Peabody is too far, so it looks like McDonald's for us. devil.gif

Or maybe I'll splurge and take her to Red Robin at Patriot Place.

I don't know if it is really sci-fi or not. I just went by what IMDB had it listed as.

I had a couple vacation days left for the year, so seeing Monday is a holiday, I tacked another day onto it for a 4 day weekend. Then I've got 10 days off over US thanksgiving and we're going to Windsor to visit Wifey's family. I'll be turning 50 in Canada!

Btw, Happy Canadian Thanksgiving Penny!

I'm going out at lunch to day to get the turkey for Sunday. Cooking up a full fledged turkey dinner for the Mrs.

You could always flag down a roach coach. laughing.gif

The 99 restaurant in Mansfield is good. We ate there when we went to the Eagles concert.
